Chapter 14

( A/n: Viking for Hire Part 2 )

The teens and their dragons are gathered in the Academy as Hiccup tells them his plan. Evergreen had her head tilted in confusion.

Fishlegs: You're bringing Gobber here?

Hiccup: ( trying to sound optimistic and encouraging ) He's gonna be great. Nobody knows dragons like Old Gobber. He's spent a lifetime, you know... studying them. If we can tap into that, we'll all be better Dragon trainers.

Meryl: I don't know if that's a good id-

Suddenly, the doors burst open and in comes Gobber, lugging a whole cart-full of weapons.

Gobber: I'm back! Did ya miss me?

Meryl and the dragons were clearly intimidated by the weapons, Meryl growled silently. Evergreen, on the other wing, looked at the weapons in curiosity, as she doesn't know what the weapons are for.

Hiccup: ( to Gobber: ) First of all, welcome. And second...tiny question, why did you bring your, you know...?

Gobber: Killing things? I thought maybe we could train them... ( Takes out a strange looking weapon ) ...by threatening to kill them. That's how my daddy taught me how to swim.

Gobber slams the weapon into the ground, breaking the earth.

Gobber: School's in session!

Frightened, Meryl grabbed Evergreen, who was about to pull out a dagger from the cart, and she got on Goofball before she and the dragons, except Toothless, fly off.

Astrid, Fishlegs, Snotlout, and the twins take off after them. Hiccup had a worried expression, as he saw how frightened Meryl was.

Gobber: ( clearly missing the point ) Eh. I didn't like school either.

Hiccup then got on Toothless to go after Meryl and Goofball.

( Slight time skip )

Hiccup and Toothless found Meryl, Goofball, and Evergreen in the cove. Meryl growled as she stood on top of a large boulder with Evergreen next to her. Evergreen was confused about what was happening. Goofball was trying to eat another rock, but Toothless gently pushed him away from the rock.

Hiccup: Come on, Meryl. Gobber wasn't going to hurt you or Goofball and Evergreen.

Meryl: He had a cart of weapons!

Hiccup: Come on, what can I do to convince you to come down.

Meryl: I get to punch Mildew once, when no one expects it.

Hiccup: Seriously? Why do you want to- actually, it makes complete sense why you want to punch him, but... Only once?

Meryl: Yes. When no one expects it.

Hiccup: ( sighs ) Alright.

Meryl then picked Evergreen up and climbed down from the boulder.

( Later, at the Academy )

Meryl and Hiccup watched as the teens ride back to the academy with their dragons. Evergreen was rough housing with Goofball in the background. The riders dismount, groaning in pain.
