Weekend go vroom (3)

Double update because I feel like it!

Y/N's POV

Practice 1 and 2 passed in what seemed like a blur, as I took 3rd and 5th respectively. Practice didn't count to the rest of the weekend though, so that sucked.

Saturday morning, I woke up tired and slightly stressed. I didn't want to underperform in the car. It'd ruin my chances of getting a seat later on. Despite all my worried though, when practice 3 rolled around, I found myself fastest in the session, somehow.

It seemed like being sleep deprived also made me faster..?

I'm not complaining.

Finally, we got to Quali.

Carlos and I set laps early into Q1, and were both incredibly satisfied when we only had to do that one lap to get through. Perfect.

Eliminated in Q1 - Logan Sargeant, Zhou Guanyu, Nyck De Vries, Nico Hulkenberg, Yuki Tsunoda

Q2 was a bit harder. Alex spun, causing a red flag in the middle of the session. Carlos was able to set a lap, but I couldn't in time. I really needed to go back out when the session restarted.

"Just my luck, isn't it... You should've gone faster, silly bitch."

"Don't put yourself down for it."

"AH! Oh, Lando! Jesus Christ, my heart! You can't just do that to me!"

He grinned, as I tried to calm my racing heart.

"Red flag fucked you over, didn't it?"

"Just a tad, yeah. Couldn't get back around in time before the red flag came in."

"That sucks. Good luck though, and don't put yourself down Y/N... I'm probably gonna get in trouble if they realise I'm not in the garage..."

"Shoo then! Don't lose your seat because of me."

"I'm trying to be nice to you!"

"I can tell... just be nice later, okay? Once me or you has pole or something."

"Okay. I'm just down the paddock if you need me though, remember?"

"Got it Lan."

He left the Ferrari garage running, but immediately tripped, falling into Carlos' arms. It was like the most shit romance film ever, and Lando had turned into a tomato.

He's an idiot. Oh well, at least he's my idiot. A stupid idiot brother.

I do love him really though.

Q2 finally restarted, as I got my lap in. I was through to Q3. At least, I hoped so. I watched nervously as the time ticked down, waiting anxiously for the Alpines and Astons to finish their laps...

Holy shit. After all that, I'd actually done it.

Eliminated in Q2 - Valterri Bottas, Alex Albon, Esteban Ocon, Lance Stroll, Kevin Magnussen

Now I just had to... actually place well. Front row preferably.

"You think we'll do any good? I can't lie, I'm very nervous..."

Carlos grinned gently at me.

"If you keep up this pace, yeah. You're fast."

"Thanks. Who'd have thunk it, after me not having driven an F1 car in two years, aye?"

"You're a good driver Y/N. You're like Lando."

I nodded, leaning against the wall behind me, fiddling with my h/l h/c hair.

"I mean, we are siblings, so it makes sense."

Eventually we split up talking, getting into our cars for Q3. My goal was P5. That was reasonable, right?

I set my first lap in a clear track. It wouldn't be fastest for long though, so I pitted to go over data, and with a fresh set of softs, I went out to set next lap, with 2 minutes on the clock.

"Okay Y/N, head down, you've got this."

I didn't feel in control of myself. I let myself drive around the corners much more riskier than I'd tried before, each time feeling glad I didn't end up in the wall. But I needed to be more careful.

I pushed the Ferrari to its absolute limit, swearing to myself that I was doing this for Charles. Somehow I thought Max and Carlos might be doing the same, but I wanted his car to be on pole. He had a contract with Ferrari anyway, he wouldn't get dropped for me.

As I rounded the final corner, I crossed the line to hear cheers from the crowd. It was a British rookie having their debut Quali in Britain, so no doubt the British fans at least would be happy.

Then again, they might just focus on the fact that Lando and I are related... actually, scratch that, they'll definitely focus on us being siblings.

"What position am I in?"

"That's P1 Y/N! Pole position! Great job!"

I sat there confused and in shock for a moment. Was I dreaming? I hit my arm quickly, feeling the weak sting through the race suit. It was real.

Holy shit.

"I'm on pole!? Seriously!? LETS GO!"

I waved at the fans as I drove past, delighting in the cheers I received. It gave me such a giddy, excited feeling. I just couldn't understand it, but it felt so exciting. Stimming now wasn't a bad thing, was it?

I was on pole position.

In my debut race in F1.

In my home gp.

I don't think Charles could do that in his home race. (/lh)

I drove into the #1 spot, seeing George and Max lined up in 2nd and 3rd.

What is it with those two being stuck together so much!? The press conference is gonna be a nightmare question-wise for me... the amount of questions Imma be asked about their relationship.

Like, can the media stay out of their business for more than two seconds for fucks sake!?

Oh well. That's press-Y/N's problem, not race-Y/N's problem.

(The results are completely made up by the way, as at time of writing, Silverstone gp 2023 hasn't happened yet! So if any of this is accurate, I guess I'm psychic-)

I can't lie, I kinda feel bad for Lando. In my debut, I got pole, while he's stuck in 8th. That just sucks.

At least Nico Rosberg was doing the interviews. He seems nice.

After the interviews, I'd better go find Lando. I'm so unsure how he'll react though, so I'd best get it out the way.
