dil ye sambhal jaye, har gham phisal jaye
din ye nikal jaye, har gham phisal jaye
agar tum saath ho
... ... ...
Imlie wasn't a stranger to pain, she'd faced plenty of harrowing experiences in her life, physically and emotionally. But she couldn't remember being this exhausted at the end of a day.
You have just gone soft with all the pampering you received in the last couple of years, the thought was acidic in her head, almost a taunt. She sniffed and wiped her nose with her sleeve.
One of the worst experiences in life was perhaps to wait for a loved one to wake up, at a hospital. She bowed her head and pressed her palms to her eyes. She wasn't crying. Her tears had dried out long back. So much so that she felt like the mark of the dried tears would make a permanent scar down her cheek. The fatigue was getting the better of her. She hadn't eaten yet and her legs were killing her.
But she can't just leave now, can she? Go home and pretend none of it is her responsibility? Fall asleep tucked in her warm bed whilst here...
"I know the doctor said you are alright, you will heal," she spoke softly. "But I need reassurance, please. I need to see you awake, talk to you. Please, wake up?"
She pressed a hand on her mouth to stop herself from sobbing. What kind of selfish nuisance of a person disturbs the patient by crying loudly? She didn't make a noise but couldn't help but gingerly take the other's hand in her own and pressed a soft kiss.
"Didi, please? I, I," she couldn't finish, it was too much. "Wake up? You never oversleep, what happened now? Aren't you the one who keeps saying oversleeping loses you opportunities?"
But Arpita didn't wake up. Imlie sighed and limped back to the couch. She curled up, making herself as small as possible and tried not to think about the ugly incidents of the day. First the accident, almost losing Didi and then the fight. She shivered. The hospital room was cold. She wrapped her duaptta around her and closed her eyes. Flashes of the crash, the noise and the punches and smell of blood. She whimpered. What a terrible day!
After the nasty fight between Aryan and Aditya, Imlie had been almost numb in shock. But she'd done all the formalities to get Aditya admitted to the emergency room, she'd informed his family.
Then she had even helped out a shocked Malini to get Cheeni treated and sent her home. In return Malini had said before leaving that if I didn't hate you, I'd ask you to leave him. He's violent.
That was bad enough so she did not wait for the Tripathis to arrive. For sure that would be the confrontation from hell. Her body had felt battered, she had no energy left for arguments. She had no appetite or will to eat either. She desperately wanted to go home and just let the day end.
But how could she leave the hospital just like that when Arpita was all alone, still not conscious even? Aditya had his family, Cheeni had her mother but her Didi was all alone. Arpita Didi had no one waiting for her because her brother had created a mess for himself.
It seemed that even though it was easy to avoid an assault charge when you are rich and influential and your assistant was smart enough to alert your lawyer before you even threw the first punch, it still required a trip to the police station. That's where Arpita's brother was. Sita Maiyaa only knew how long it would take him to get free and reach back here.
