Wala sa sarili akong tumango kay Lydia ng magpaalam itong umalis. I remained seated as I watch them leave the room. Lumingon ako sa katabi kong tahimik na nagbabasa, it is the same book he was reading the first time we met.
Habang nakasulyap ako sa kanya ay naalala ko ang naging reaksiyon ko sa pasya ng aming guro kanina.
Unlike him, I resorted a violent reaction of disapproval but the teacher declined my request to replace him as my partner.
"You dislike me that much?" I saw his expression went hard.
He slowly faced me and closed the book he was reading. Napalunok ako at nag-iwas ng tingin sa kanya.
"No, it's not like that..." humina ang boses ko sa huling sinabi.
The guilt starts creeping me up when I heard him scoff. Napayuko ako sa hiya dahil sa intensidad ng tingin niya sa akin. Wala ni isang nagsalita sa amin at hinayaang mamayani ang katahimikan.
The distant chatters are the only noise heard in the background. We stayed in that position until I felt someone tapped my shoulder.
Nag-angat ako ng tingin at nakita si Rance.
"Are you okay? Gusto mo bang kausapin ko sir para magpalit tayo ng partner?" nag-aalalang alu nito sakin.
Kai laughed without humor. "I am sure you are not deaf, you heard him. That heroic stunt of yours won't change his mind."
"I'm talking to her not to you bro," may diin sa tono niya.
"As far as I'm concerned, I am her partner so I have the right to interfere," madilim na tingin ang iginawad sa kanya ng katabi ko at ngumisi.
Tila napigtas ang pasensya ni Rance at iritadong binalingan ang lalaki. Kai stood up, wearing a hard expression as their height leveled. Rance balled his first while Kai clenched his jaw.
May namuong tensiyon sa pagitan nilang dalawa dahilan upang mapatingin samin ang mga natira naming kaklase.
"Go tol Rance!"
"Dun sa transferee boto ko. Mukhang malakas eh."
"Grabe na talaga. The things we do for love."
"Shut up!" I exclaimed.
Tumigil ang kantyawan at tumahimik ang palagid dahil sa sigaw ko. Pumikit ako ng mariin at galit na tumayo. Napatingin sa akin ang dalawa at pareho ko silang tiningnan ng masama. They both got shocked when they saw my angry expression.
I sighed exasperatedly and stopped myself from shouting at them. I am way beyond pissed.
Pareho lang nilang pinapalala ang sitwasyon.
I just took my bag and immediately walked out of the scene. The two of them were left stunned as I exited the room. Narinig ko pa ang pagtawag nito sa akin ngunit hindi ko sila nilingon. I hurriedly went downstairs and took my phone out as soon as I reach the lobby.
Huminga muna ako ng malalim bago nag-tipa ng mensahe sa driver ni dad. I sat on the chair while typing. The driver swiftly texted back stating na medyo matatagalan pa raw bago ako masundo dahil sa traffic.
I peaked at the gloomy sky, looks like it will rain anytime soon.
Tumayo ako ng maalalang maaari nila akong maabutan dito. I shooked my head at the thought and strutted towards the school parking lot. I quickened my pace as I felt raindrops prickle on my skin.
There is a waiting shed lying beside the gate between the parking lot and school.
Doon ako dumiretso.
