"How could you let them take Appa?! Why didn't you stop them?" Aang accuses. "I couldn't! The library was sinking! You guys were still inside and-"Aang interrupts Toph as he walks over to her. He's filled with rage I've never seen in the level-headed boy. "You could've come to get us. I could've saved him!"
"I can hardly feel any vibrations out here. The sandbenders snuck up on me and there wasn't time for–"
"You just didn't care! You never liked Appa! You wanted him gone!" Aang snaps. "Aang, that isn't fair." I try to interject. He just whirls on me. "What do you know about fair?" He doesn't need to elaborate, I know what he means. I remain quiet, trying not to take it to heart. Katara puts her hand on his shoulder to try and calm him down. "Aang, stop it. You know Toph did all she could. She saved our lives."
"Who's going to save our lives now? We'll never make it out of here." Sokka reminds. "That's all any of you guys care about, yourselves! You don't care whether Appa is okay or not!" Aang says harshly. "We're all concerned, but we can't afford to be fighting now." Katara continues to mediate. "I'm going after Appa." Aang flies off with his glider. Katara calls after him, running to the place he took off. After a few moments, she gives up. "We'd better start walking. We're the only people who know about the solar eclipse. We have to get that information to Ba Sing Se." We start walking in the same direction as Aang, with Katara leading the way. "You think if we dig out the giant owl, he'll give us a ride?" Sokak asks. I just scoff.
It feels like it's only a matter of minutes before we're all exhausted and dehydrated. Sokka stops to take Momo off his back and use his wings to create some shade, causing Toph to crash into him. "Can't you watch where you're-" His eyes widen in realization as he sees who bumped into him. "No."
"Right. Sorry." Katara turns around. "Come on guys, we've got to stick together." Sokka's clothes stick to Toph. He tries to free himself by pushing her away. "If I sweat anymore, I don't think sticking together will be a problem." Irritated, Toph places her hand on Sokka's face and pushes him to the ground, freeing them both. "Katara, can I have some more water?"
"Okay, but we've got to try to conserve it." Katara bends three small blobs of water out of her pouch and into the mouths of Sokka, Toph and Momo. She offers some to me, but I decline. "Trust me, I'm a lot more used to the heat then you guys. I'll be okay." I assure before she can argue. Sokka circulates the water in his mouth before swallowing it. "We're drinking your bending water. You used this on the swamp guy! Urch!" Sokka might be the most dramatic person I know. "It does taste swampy." Toph agrees. Momo lets out a sad cry in protest of the water's flavor, after also smacking his lips. Katara sadly puts the cork back on her water sack. "I'm sorry, it's all we have."
"It's okay, Katara. We can figure something out." I say, trying to be optimistic. However, my voice deceives me, seeing as it sounds unsure and hollow. "Something.... like that! Look!" Sokka exclaims. I look to where he's pointing at a small cactus. He walks over to the sturdy plant and cuts off a piece with his machete. He happily drinks the fluid that's inside while Momo crawls over to him. "Sokka, wait! You shouldn't be eating strange plants!" Katara drags Toph and I along toward Sokka. He and Momo are quenching their thirst with plenty of cactus juice. He cuts open another part of the cactus, excitedly offering its contents to us. "There's water trapped inside these!" It's tempting, but there's a mysterious look to it. "Suit yourself. It's very thirst-quenching, though." he says with a shrug when we decline. I start to suggest ways we may be able to salvage the water when I notice Sokka's pupils dilates rapidly. He tries to shake off the feeling by rapidly shaking his head. He starts to trip. "Drink cactus juice. It'll quench ya! Nothing's quencher." He crawls over the ground as a caterpillar before jumping back to the front, pushing his face toward us with a giant smile. "It's the quenchiest!"
