Sophie's POV
I am so excited! The day of the play! Opening night! I'm so happy! Lately we've been cramming in a lot of rehearsals and it's amazing. I have gotten used to not tripping over my dress and opening night should for smoothly.
I paced across my room, practicing songs and lines. I went downstairs to grab a water and I saw Grady and Edaline leaving the house, the dogs in hand.
"Mom, dad, what's happening? Why are you leaving?"
"Silveny's going into labor, we have to take her to the vet ASAP. I'm sorry this is happening on opening night. But I'm sure it'll be over in a couple of hours," Edaline explained.
"The play starts in a couple of hours." Edaline gave a warm smile.
"I know and I'm so sorry. I know how excited you were."
"It's fine. But I'm going with you guys. I'm not going to miss Silveny giving birth over a stupid play."
"Are you sure? I know how much the play means to you." I nodded.
"I care about Silveny much more. Come on let's go we can't waste anymore time," Edaline smiled and everyone left while I quickly put my shoes on. We headed to the vet and Silveny made barking and whimpering sounds in the car. We headed inside and called for a doctor.
"Hello, my dog is going into labor, can you assist please assist her?" Grady asked. The doctor nodded and took Silveny away from him.
"Nurse, can you take her to room 101, and bring my gloves and towels please," the nurse nodded, gently taking Silveny from the doctor's arms. Greyfell started barking as well Silveny when the nurse took her away.
"Do you think he could be their? I'm sure Silveny would feel much better if he was their," the doctor nodded and held Greyfell in his arms.
"We'll call you when it's time, please take a seat in the waiting area," and then the doctor left. We found 3 seats by each other and took a seat. I pulled out a loose eyelash, a nervous habit of mine. Edaline placed a hand on my knee, stop my leg from shaking.
"Are you sure you're all right?" She asked. I nodded.
"It's a shame I can't be there after all the hard work I've put in it," Edaline gave me a sympathetic smile.
"At least there's tomorrow," I nodded and smiled. I then heard my phone ring and the sound cut off when I answered it. It was Linh.
"Hey Linh!"
"Hey Sophie! Where are you? I'm backstage right now and everyone's waiting for you. The directors a hot mess."
"I'm not coming, Silveny has gone into labor," she gasped.
"Oh, that's such a shame. You've been so excited about opening night. You were even counting down the days until today!"
"I know Linh, but I can't miss something big like this. I need to be here for Silveny," I responded.
"I understand. I'm happy for Silveny. But now Stina has to take your place and then she and Fitz will have to... I don't even want to talk about it. Anyways, I'll talk to you later, can't wait to see Silveny's new baby! Bye!"
"Bye," and then we hung up the phone.
Linh's POV
I hung up the phone with Sophie. The director walked up to me, a stressed expression on his face.
"She's not coming, her dog went into labor," I say.
"Seriously?! Oh my god. This is terrible. Sophie was our best actor! It pains me but... Stina, you will be playing the role of Cinderella tonight," she clapped and jumped up and down.
"Why? Where's Sophie?" Fitz asked.
"She can't come tonight, her stupid dog went into labor, so since Stina is the understudy, she will be playing Cinderella," I rolled my eyes at his rude comment of Silveny. Silveny was the sweetest dog ever.
"Everyone! Get into your costumes! Time is valuable!" Everyone scrambled to get their costumes.
Sophie's POV
It's been 2 hours. And we've finally been called.
"And their we have it. Two perfectly normal healthy puppies born."
"Puppies?" The doctor nodded.
"Silveny gave birth to twins," we saw two puppies sleeping, as well as Silveny, and Greyfell laid beside Silveny.
"Sophie, they'll probably be sleeping for a few hours and there's 20 minutes left for the play to start. I can rush you there and you can still make it in time," my eyes lit up.
"Really?"
"Yeah but we must leave now," Edaline said. I nodded and hugged Grady. He placed a kiss on the top of my head.
"Break a leg sweetheart," I smiled and we broke apart.
"Thanks dad," and then me and Edaline rushed out of the vet and into the car.
We soon arrived at the school and I rushed into the auditorium.
"I'm here!" The directors head shot my way and a smile grew on his face.
"Wonderful! We only have 10 minutes until we raise the curtains, so Stina give your costume to Sophie," Stina shrieked.
"What?! No! You already told me I'd play Cinderella tonight!"
"This is Sophie's role, not yours. We don't have time to argue. Give the costume to Sophie now!" she huffed and stomped to the bathroom to get out of the costume. I found Linh and the Vacker's come my way. Biana and Linh gave me quick hugs, smiles on their faces.
"You're here! What happened?" Linh asked.
"Silveny gave birth to healthy twins," I answered.
"They must be so adorable! I'm so happy for her! I'm so glad you could make it here tonight," Linh said.
"I'm glad I could too."
"All right, come on Sophie we need to get you changed. Let's go," I followed Biana, not without getting stopped by Fitz.
"I'm glad you made it here tonight," I smiled.
"Me too." He gave me one last smile before I followed Biana. I quickly put on my costume and she helped me do my makeup and my hair.
"30 SECONDS! LET'S WRAP IT UP PEOPLE!!" The director screamed throughout the stage. I stood behind the curtains and looked back receiving a smile and wink from Fitz. I took in a deep breath and then the curtains were raised.
