james was seven when he first read about soulmates. he remembered it so vividly.

it was a fairy tale book about a girl who fell in love with a boy so quickly and intensely that she truly believed they were soulmates.

two people bound by some invisible string and no matter how far separated they were, they always found their way back to each other because they were destined to be together.

destiny. soulmates. invisible strings.

how ridiculously preposterous.

or at least that's what he knew everyone would declare when they read that, but james? james knew differently.

james had grown up with his parents who were so undeniably in love, that it was impossible to not believe in the 'preposterous' idea of soulmates. in a world where magic, dragons and all the things told to muggles in fairytales were true.

how could he not possibly accept that something that sounded so fabricated could actually be real?

so what if there wasn't some bizarre birthmark that informed you who was destined to be with you, or some spell to show you the 'invisible string' and lead you right to your fate?

the notion of a soulmate made james believe in the unimaginable. but james didn't honestly comprehend what a soulmate was until he met her.

DECEMBER 22ND, 1967

the screen displayed what looked to be a large ballroom clustered with many people, primarily pureblooded families with the occasional halfboods and muggleborns around.

a young james potter emerged on the screen standing close by his parents as they greeted people into their residence.

"you look just like your dad." draco whispered into harry's ear as the glasses-wearing boy nodded in agreement, finally understanding what eden meant when she used to tell him that.

"i remember this. it was the annual christmas party at the potters." marlene mckinnon piped up from the crowd, having been a close family friend to the potters and was invited alongside her parents and older brothers.

the people who hadn't seen the manor looked on in astonishment at the elegant architecture that was both homey and extravagant.
