Chapter 109: Zhang Ziyi's "Revenge Match"

Starting from early February, the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Indoor World Tour had already begun. By late February, domestic indoor athletics regional competitions in China were about to commence.

The start of indoor competitions provided the athletes, who had been stagnant for several months, with an opportunity to readjust to the competition environment. It allowed them to regain their competitive form and rhythm in indoor competitions and also served as an assessment of their performance levels after the winter training.

After the conclusion of the winter training camp, only a few male athletes from the national team remained for further training. These athletes included Zhang Ziyi, Qiu Wen, Li Junhao, Lin Chuan, Guo Dun, and Zhang Wei. Lin Chuan and Zhang Wei were retained to serve as backup members for the 4x400m relay team at the World Athletics Relay Championships in May.

On the women's side, there were originally six members in the winter training camp, and these six athletes, led by Chen Yadan, continued their training without any changes.

However, for the athletes who remained in the training camp, Su Bai had different competition arrangements in mind for each of them.

After the winter training camp, Lin Chuan, Guo Dun, and Zhang Wei continued to represent their respective provincial teams in the domestic indoor athletics regional competitions. Zhang Ziyi was dispatched to participate in the February 16th IAAF Indoor Athletics Tour in Toruń, Poland, while Qiu Wen and Li Junhao would take part in the February 18th IAAF Indoor Athletics Tour in Madrid, Spain.

Except for Zhang Ziyi, both Qiu Wen and Li Junhao were participating in this level of indoor tour for the first time. This represented Su Bai's direction in developing the current male members of the 400m short-distance team.

In terms of personal achievements, Qiu Wen, Li Junhao, and Zhang Ziyi all had greater breakthrough potential. As for Guo Dun, Lin Chuan, and Zhang Wei, they were already top-class in individual achievements in China. However, in comparison to higher-level opponents, Guo Dun and the others still had room for growth. Nevertheless, their advantages lay in their calm personalities and extensive competition experience, making them reliable choices for relay events.

In the women's team, although Chen Yadan had crossed the age of 27, theoretically past the prime years for female athletes, her athletic performance had been on the rise ever since she broke through in the Asian Six Nations Athletics Challenge. Whether it was her outstanding form displayed during training or her dominance in several internal competitions, she clearly held the upper hand.

At present, Chen Yadan has completely stabilized her performance within 52 seconds. In internal competitions, she has repeatedly clocked times under 52 seconds. Among the female team members, she still deservedly holds the top position.

Apart from Chen Yadan, the progress made by Lin Huan and Lin Yao, two younger team members, has been astonishing. Given their current form, they have a good chance of achieving the qualifying standards for the World Championships.

The National Athletics Administration has been 100% satisfied with the performance of the 400m event group in the athletics team during this period. Beyond the endorsements secured by the athletes through the entertainment show, they haven't shown any inclination toward other opportunities. Their unwavering focus has been on improving their own performances, and their respect for competitive sports has not waned. This is what has truly relieved the National Athletics Administration.
