Lorelei's POV:

Stefan walks in front, I'm in the middle with Nik behind me as we walk through the woods. Thanks to Nik's witch we were about a mile or so away from the next werewolf pack: The Saxai Pack. Small group of maybe 10.

Quiet and reserved.

Stefan holds up a hand and we all freeze.

A twig snaps to the right.

Leaves rustle to the left.

Party time.

A woman lunges at Nik, believing that she had caught him off guard. He dodges her easily and after a brief moment, has her in a headlock.

"Everyone come out peacefully or I snap her neck. This isn't meant to be a massacre. Let's all take it easy." Nik says calmly

One by one they all come out from where they'd been concealed. As I look around at the small crowd gathering, I realize they carry no weapons. I wonder how the hell they were planning on defending themselves.

Every werewolf knew that if it wasn't the full moon, you were in the most vulnerable state.

Stronger than a human, but nothing compared to that of a fully transformed werewolf.

Stuck in the body of a basic human being.

Nik smiles at his achievement.

"I have a simple request. If you have triggered your curse, step forward."

This question immediately puts them on edge as it was designed to. I can already sense the questions they must be circling around in their heads. Werewolves for a very particular about Where they called home. It wasn't like they had it posted on signs everywhere in the forest.

A young man who'd been standing there anxiously watching this all unfold, tries to bolt and Stefan speeds over and grabs him, shoving him down to the ground. Without any hesitation, Nik bites into his wrist, forcing the girl to drink his blood then snaps her neck.

She falls to the ground, limp.

The woman I can only assume is the mother, begins to sob uncontrollably.

The sudden violence snaps the wolves out of their trance. I can see them all begin to realize that they are no match for him. Stefan shoves a wolf towards him and Nik repeats the process.

Some do their best to try and fight but it's useless. Their struggles are met with the snapping of bones. Minutes later, every one of them who stepped forward were now lying in a head on the ground. Nik compels the rest to forget about today's events and to leave as they were of no use to him.

Erasing all trace of their family members existence from their minds...

"Go find a few people to compel and bring them here. They'll need to feed when they wake." Nik says to Stefan

Stefan nods and vanishes.

I lean up against a tree, staring out at the woods. The sun was beaming down on us at the beginning of the journey, making it even more miserable. It would've been peaceful had I not been smooshed between two men all evening after also being trapped in the car for hours just to get here. This was all I knew of Nik's plan so far. It was cruel. Calculated.

Well, he could've killed all of them.

The thought chills me to my core.

I'm starting to think like him.

I turn and walk a few steps away, shaking my head a little bit as I go, trying to clear all of the messy thoughts from my mind.

I always worried what he might ask of me.
