Zaid

I shut the door to my father's house with a slam.

I look around the black and white themed house, hearing nor seeing no one I head up the staircase.

I get to the second floor heading straight to his office.

I knock, not waiting for a response before I walk in.

My father's head snaps up to the door, eyes glaring before they soften.

"Son." my dad's deep voice speaks, he stands flattening out his suit before walking around his desk.

When he's close he pulls me into a hug which makes me roll my eyes but grin a little patting him on the back.

Mafia boss Zachariah Blackwell pulls back from the hug with a warm smile.

My dad's been overly affectionate since I first met him when I was ten.

He still feels guilty for not being there for me the first ten years of my life, I don't know why though, it's not his fault he had no idea I existed.

"You okay?" he always asks this question when I wake up from a dream involving my mom, I don't know how he knows but he just does.

I had one two days ago and I woke up to another one this morning.

Way more than usual.

"Another dream?" I nod, confirming his question.

His shoulders sag as he sighs and he sits back behind his desk, I sit in the chair Infront of the black marble desk.

"Anything new?" I ask that dreaded question I already know the answer to.

"No, I'm sorry Zaid." I grind my teeth, looking away out the window next to his desk that outlooks the whole street.

My father has been searching for my mother the last fifteen years.

But there's been nothing, nothing at all.

It's like she disappeared off the face of the earth.

The banging on the door gets more aggressive as the seconds go by.

Eleanor gasps, running to her son's bedroom window and opening it.

she runs to Zaid, picks him up and carries him to the open window.

she sets him down outside, his shoes touching the wet grass.

"Mommy-"

"Mommy loves you so much Zaid okay? I love you so much."

A loud bang echoes throughout the house and then silence.

Then the sound of multiple footsteps.

she quickly gives her son the black bag, Zaid grips the bag tight, his eyes watering.

Zaid's bottom lip trembles "I'm scared."

Eleanor covers her mouth to hold back a sob.

"I'm sorry Zaid, this is all my fault, i-i should have....I should have never hidden you away from your father, you would have been safer with him."

"Jenny is parked down the street, you know her car? the bright red one!"

Zaid shakes as he looks at his mother.
