Richard paused for a moment; the weight of the situation apparent in his gaze. "In my haste, I accidentally knocked over the vial. The liquid spilled onto my hand, and even though I quickly washed it off, it must have been absorbed through a small cut I hadn't noticed."

Aspen's anger was now replaced by a mixture of empathy and concern. "So, the Lycan Bane got into your bloodstream?"

Richard nodded his expression solemn. "Yes, and I didn't think much of it at first. I didn't feel any immediate effects, and I thought I had escaped unscathed. But then, the changes started. It was gradual at first—heightened senses, increased strength—but soon the transformation began to take hold."

Aspen's anger had fully dissipated now, replaced by a sense of understanding and empathy for Richard's predicament.

"I continued to investigate, hoping to find a way to reverse the effects or at least control them," Richard continued. "But the transformations became more frequent and harder to control. That's when I knew I needed help, I knew getting your attention would be difficult––so that's why I sent my men to kidnap Ava, that way I could get your help."

Aspen had woken Chloe filling her in with all that happened and gave her back control of her body.... Chloe placed the blue liquid in a container and shove it in her pants... "When I go back home, I'll see what I can come up with to help." Chloe stared closely at the Lycan Bane to get a better view... "If humans are transforming into wolves under the influence of the full moon we need to do something about this and fast. We need to find out who came up with the idea of making such a powerful portion––a human didn't do it alone. They had help. We just need to know who and we need to find out fast."

"Now that we have an understanding, can you untie me?" Richard chuckled after hearing how desperate he sounded... "We cannot let this get into the wrong hands, its best if you're the one who keep the Lycan Bane." While Richard was busy talking, Chloe occupied herself by unlocking him from his bed taking his words in at the same time.

While Chloe was surprised to hear Richard confession, but she was also enlightened that he was comfortable sharing such delicate information. Showing up wasn't in vain after all.

Chloe's smirk disappeared as she remembered the reason of her visit.... "Where is Ava?" At Chloe's question, Richard frowned... "Right.... I almost forgot that she was the reason you're here. She's somewhere safe, don't worry." He laughed nervously...

Chloe noticed the tenseness in the atmosphere but slightly brushed it off... "I'm leaving tomorrow, that will give you enough time to get Ava here by noon." Chloe finished off with a yawn.... "Let us put our past behind us once and for all and focus on where the future takes us, and considering the incident that occurred some months ago, we have some serious work to do–this time around we're going to have to work together." With I trail to the door and ushered Richard out of his room to get my beauty rest.

Chloe

Even after finally obtaining the privacy I needed, I couldn't rid myself of the nagging suspicion that something was amiss with Richard.

Everything he had mentioned, his peculiar expression when I healed him, and the information he shared all seemed too good to be true, making it clear that something was awry. I could sense he hadn't disclosed the entire story – that was what felt off.

The complete truth.

A shiver coursed through me as the cold breeze seeped into the room, and I gazed around, savoring the room's beauty.

The walls were adorned with a soothing blend of yellow and white, providing the perfect ambiance.

There were wooden chairs placed strategically around the massive king-size bed, and my fingers trailed along the finely furnished table that matched the chair set.

Not bad.

It seemed like I had influenced Richard in a positive way; his taste wasn't too shabby.

I couldn't help but revisit the events of the previous night. The tragic incident still churned my stomach at the mere recollection– such things couldn't be easily forgotten.

What kind of mess had he gotten himself into this time?

My eyes snapped shut, urging me into slumber, where I drifted off to a different realm.

A sudden, thunderous bang on the door jolted me awake from a deep slumber. The room was awash in a soft, subdued sunlight, indicating I must have slept through most of the day.

My bones protested as I gingerly stretched and rubbed my groggy face. The ordeal of repositioning them was a painful ritual I had grown accustomed to—a phenomenon I was actively researching.

You see, whenever I slept, my bones seemed to shift in mysterious ways, a puzzling phenomenon that still eluded my understanding.

Just as I was beginning to gather my thoughts, a calm yet insistent voice broke through my bewilderment.

"Chloe!! Are you in there??" The voice called out urgently.

My eyes widened in alarm as I recalled the person knocking at the door. "Is something wrong?" I retorted with a hint of sarcasm, hastily wrapping the covers around my body. I ventured toward the door, my attire consisting of nothing more than underwear.

The maid's eyes widened in shock as her gaze roved over my disheveled appearance. She scanned my body before finally making eye contact with me, and she seemed as if she had seen a ghost.

"Good evening, I—" she stuttered.

I couldn't help but smirk. "Am I distracting you?" I asked, noticing the badge on the short, blond maid. "Cammy, there's no reason to be shy. I don't bite," I added playfully, wiggling my eyebrows.

Cammy cleared her throat, summoning the courage to speak up. "Sleeping in the Alpha's chambers—I didn't see that coming," she said with a hint of disgust before continuing, "You are summoned to the King's Chambers. Please put on some proper clothes before joining the assembly; other Alphas are eagerly awaiting your presence."

With that, Cammy walked away, leaving me stunned by her unanticipated boldness.

If only she knew.

Who she was talking to.

Locking the door with a sly grin flustering my face, I made my way to the bathroom to freshen up.

My body shivered as the cold water cascaded over my back, and my mouth fell slightly open in response to the invigorating sensation. The tense knots in my muscles gradually eased.
