SUMMARY
James Potter's seemingly endless streams of affection and compliments had, ultimately, fallen on deaf ears. Lily Evans didn't like him like that and finally, he had accepted it. He would be the first to admit, it had taken some time, but considering the state of the wizarding world around them, he decided it absolutely worthless to be stuck on someone who didn't like him and eventually got over her.
He'll admit, it took a summer with Sirius wittering on his ear to do so, but he managed it. And when they returned to the castle for their final year, he was confronted by the memory of a night he hardly remembered and a list of Sirius's dos and don'ts prescribed to Peter on that very same night, shoved into a pile of some summer work he had lent to him that he had expected back at least two weeks before.
And, well, James figured that he had spent a pretty long time with this whole crush thing, and left without he was pretty bored. Confronted by the last year of his N.E.W.T.s and the seemingly inevitable end of the world as they knew it; given the ongoing war; and the list of Sirius's ways to get a girl (despite him deciding to go against all expectations and end up dating Remus, of all people)... James figured he quite liked the chase.
So what else could he do except follow the advice and pray that it all worked out?

All rights to the Harry Potter universe and (most) things inside of it go to J.K. Rowling. However, I do own this plot and my own characters and anything inside of the plot which is non-canon.
I figure Moody would've ended up having a kid pretty young, and given that his actor is Irish I have made both him and his kid (Matilda) Irish, and also as a result James is going to be very much giving James from Derry Girls in this fic. There won't be too much of a differing plot from this, except later on when it becomes more focused on the whole war thing.
