Ice

The wall seemed to stretch forever and ever, separating Elyse and Edith forevermore.

Each day blurs into the last within the wall, escape becomes less of a plan and more of a dream.

Edith sat at her desk and began to write.

To my dearest Elyse, light of my life;

They think they can cut through the ice, but I don't have the heart to tell them that their attempts will never work.
They think that if they keep swinging their pickaxes at the wall then it has to fall.
Elyse, she will not allow it, the lady of the stars that is, she does not want us to leave.
I think of you often my dearest, I hope that one day she will believe we deserve to see each other again.
I think often of what we'd do outside the wall together, I heard of this Pirate Isle not too far from here, maybe we'd join that.

I hope you are safe Elyse, wherever you are and I hope you somehow manage to continue to receive these letters, at her mercy of course.
They are readying their pickaxes again to continue to hack at the wall.
I must go but I hope to see you again one day.
I love you Elyse.

Yours forever and always,
Edith
