Nick and Noah - Continued

Two updates in a week?! What?! Enjoy, guys, and I'll be back with another chapter as soon as I possibly can...

I furrowed my eyebrows as I looked across the table at Mom and Will, the two of them acting weirdly as they continuously glanced at each other... "Mom, what's going on?"

"Hmm, what? Oh, nothing, sweetheart. Everything's fine."

"You expect me to believe that? Tell me, what is it?"

She glanced over at Nick who was talking to Lion... "Nick's mother is here."

"What?"

She glared at me, and I smiled apologetically... "She's over in the corner with her new husband. Will doesn't want Nick seeing her. He hasn't seen her in more than a year."

"Okay."

I felt Noah's hand on my arm, and I turned to her, seeing her smiling at me warmly..." Hey, you."

"Hey, yourself. Shall we get out of here? I need to get changed into the dress Jenna bought for me and then the four of us can head to the club."

I nodded..." Let me just settle up the bill with Dad and then we'll go."

"Your Dad can handle it. Come on, I want to go!"

I furrowed my eyebrows... "What's going on with you?"

"Nothing, I just want to get out of here."

"And we will, in a minute. I promise."

I turned to Dad and pulled out my wallet to split the bill with him...

"I'll deal with the bill. You guys go and have a good time and we'll see you tomorrow."

"Are you sure?"

He nodded... "Go on, go."

I rose to my feet and held out my hand to Noah as Jenna and Lion rose to their feet too...

"Hello, Nicholas, sweetheart."

I stopped in my tracks as I heard her voice... a voice I hadn't heard in more than a year and turned... "Mom."

She smiled at me warmly... "How are you?"

"You're wanting to exchange pleasantries? What are you even doing here in Madrid?"

"Harold is here on business. I wanted to come and say hello. Congratulate you on being accepted into college."

"How do you know about that?"

"You're my son, I know everything there is to know about you, including your new girlfriend. Noah, isn't it?"

Noah nodded and I pulled her closer..." You don't get to act like a Mom when you walked out when I was just a child. Have a nice life, Mom. Come on, guys, let's go."

I took Noah's hand and guided her out of the restaurant, Jenna and Lion following behind us...

Nick released my hand as we walked out of the restaurant and I watched as he pulled a packet of cigarettes from his pocket and lit one, inhaling deeply before tipping his head back as he released the smoke from his mouth up into the cool night air...

"Are you okay?"

"Oh, I'm marvellous."

"I'm just asking."

He ran his hands over his face... "I know, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to be like that. She just... she has a way of getting under my skin."

"Let's not go to the club tonight. I'm not in the mood."
