6. Haunted

The day before had been a rollercoaster. Lexa had been hanging out with Caroline for most of the day. Jeremy had messaged them that Vicki had been round acting weird. He'd overheard Stefan saying that she was in transition. They hadn't seen or heard anything since she ran out the house in the afternoon.

Lexa was now wearing her hair in a bun with what looked like two chopsticks going through it. They were actually very thin stakes she had carved to look like hair accessories. She was prepared for any attack now. Jeremy was just finishing up in the bathroom after their run that morning, when Elena walked in. He gestured for Lexa to go on downstairs. She waited on the landing for him.

"You're up early. Where are you going?" Elena asked him.

"Nowhere Elena. I'm just worried about Vicki. That's all. Matt said he'll call if they find anything. I offered to help search"

"No way Jer. You should be going to school"

"I am... I only offered. He declined; said he'd call instead. Which is what I've just said" Lexa could hear Jeremy say, exasperated with Elena. Why did she insist on controlling them both?

Jeremy walked out of the bathroom to see Lexa there with a small smile on her face. She opened her arms, and he hugged her. It was short and sweet, but it was to show him that she supported him. They went down to grab some breakfast and head out. Lexa and Jeremy were meeting Caroline at school early to go over their training regime. Jeremy was a quick study, so they were needing to adjust a few things. Caroline offered to teach him a new language too. Both the girls were adept at many languages thanks to their summer vacations with John. Lexa knew a few more though, since she self-studied throughout the year too.

They got to school with little hindrance and were trying to find Caroline. Lexa saw Matt at his locker and made her way over.

"Hey Matt. How are you holding up?" She asked him gently. Lexa always believed Matt deserved better than Elena. He was kind and thoughtful. Matt smiled back gratefully. Lexa could be a wild card, but she did care in her own way.

"Not bad. She's been gone longer on her, um... Adventures. But what I saw at your house scared me a bit" he told her truthfully.

"I'm sure you'll find her. Vic could never go too long without checking on you, dude" Jeremy told him and patted his shoulder. Matt's phone began to ring, so the siblings left him to it with a small wave.

Lexa was the first to spot Caroline. She was talking to Tiki, holding two big bags.

"There's my favourite bitch! I've missed you!" Lexa yelled dramatically. Caroline and Jeremy rolled their eyes at her dramatics. Tiki smiled and walked off. Lexa ran at Caroline and engulfed her in a hug. It almost knocked the two girls off their feet and Caroline dropped the bags she was holding. Jeremy laughed at the two.

"Lex! What have I said about the run-up?" Caroline told her with a playful tone.

"It needs to be longer so I can actually knock you off your feet?" Lexa says mockingly back.

"No!"

The three walk into the library, just talking about classes in general. When they walk in, Jeremy immediately walks to a table at the back. Lexa and Caroline follow him.

"So, I've decided I want to learn Bulgarian first. According to Lexa, it's where her maternal family originates, and I want to learn it for her. And I want one up on Elena when she finds out" Jeremy told Caroline. The two girls laugh, but Caroline jots it down in her training notebook.

Each of them has a training notebook. Lexa started it when she was five. It documents things like progress, new skills, languages to learn, and much more. There is nothing supernatural in there just in case someone finds it. She's not an idiot like Elena. Lexa writes hers in Bulgarian and Caroline writes hers in Russian. Jeremy hasn't learnt a new language to fluency yet, so his is still in English. They only meet for a half hour before heading their separate ways. Jeremy headed out to see his art teacher about a project, and the two girls headed out to find Bonnie. They spotted her not to far from Matt and Tyler.
