so i decided to participate in a graphic war after ages and well, the first round itself was model-based and- we all know how good i am with them, right?

i just love designing complicated stuff for these contests, plus I was sick for a week (still not recovered as I write this) 🙂✨

THE PROMPT

long story short, we had to introduce ourselves by making a poster based on a character trait of us, or an oc. the key is to make a good first impression on "The Oracle" a.k.a. Xerophthalmia ✨

MISCOMMUNICATIONS

At first, I decided to make a vector cover inspired by "Mulan" and chose a warrior theme (loyal, brave and true) with a probable tagline of: "As delicate as a Rose, but as sharp as a Warrior".

There'd be a girl delicately holding a rose on one side and a warrior with a sword, on the other.

But then I thought that we had to chose one character trait and mine might portray multiple so I discarded the idea :')

Then I thought to do a manip (the genre was fantasy and I wanted to keep it that way) and it was, well... complicated- I also thought to make a blend design alongside it and these are how they turned out:

This kind of design was way too basic so I decided to discard this too T-T

You'll probably see this back up again as a premade lol.

And then I ended up finally picking the manip poster for final submission, so yeah, this was a bit stressful :D

THE STORY OF US

✦ Chosen Character Trait: Calmness.
Calmness and patience are two vital traits I believe a person should have if they wish to become a warrior and fight against the challenges they face. If a warrior becomes anxious or loses stability in the face of adversity, then the probability of them, overcoming the challenge depends purely on luck.

✦ In the graphic war, I chose my strength as typography which corresponds to the element of water. That is why the model in the graphic harnesses the power of water.

✦ When one thinks of the opposite of water, the most common answer is fire which is the adversity that Rose overcomes.

✦ The field she stands in was previously set on fire by a dragon and the poster shows the scene after she's successfully brought down her enemy. The dragon is lying dead in the grass in front of her, with Rose's dagger stabbed at her weak point. Most of the fire has been put out by Rose using her water powers. Yet, she has a certain calmness present on her face even if she is standing in an unfavourable condition. That is why I chose my tagline as follows: "As calm as the sea in the face of adversity."

✦ The magical doves that fly around Rose, are her pets/familiars which symbolise peace and tranquillity.

✦ Lastly, she holds a rose in her hand which is a flower that best represents her, as it has delicate petals which can calm the mind of the on-looker, but also has thorns on its stem, revealing how a calm person can also be as sharp as a warrior on the inside.

✦ And the reason I chose to submit my manip over my blend design was purely because I challenged myself too for this round just like Rose does in the design ;)

and yeah, the headings are literal excerpts from " The Story Of Us (Taylor's Version) ". funny how i'm referencing to a Speak Now TV song when i'm currently obsessed with the vault tracks from 1989 TV... probably a swiftie thing-
