"Alice, please tell me what's going on," I begged.

"We have to get you both far away from here," Edward answered before she could.

"Why?" Bella asked worriedly.

"James is a tracker," he quickly explained, not looking an eye at anyone. "Tracking is his obsession — I read his mind."

"What? So now he's coming after us?" I asked as panic filled my voice.

Alice placed her hand on my back, tracing slow, soothing circles in an attempt to ease the weight of the fear that was overflowing every ounce of my body.

Yet, I knew deep down that she was terrified of the situation we were in now.

Edward had increased the speed of the vehicle far over one hundred miles an hour, and my head grew dizzy with worry as I watched the bleak environment blur past us down the main road.

"That's why we have to get you both out of here — away from Forks." he asserted furiously.

"What? No!" I pleaded.

"Edward, let's just think about our options for a minute," Alice finally spoke — her tone was calm yet more potent than I'd ever heard before.

"You don't understand Alice," he remarked with frustration. "He's a tracker, and he wants both of them — Bella and Harper — he noticed how I reacted on the field over Bella before he noticed she wasn't the only human with us. He's not going to give up unless we kill him!"

"You have to take us home Edward!" Bella demanded, brushing over his statement.

"No, neither of you can go home," he objected fiercely. "He's just going to trace your scents to both your houses — it's the first places he'll search."

"But our parents are—" Bella uttered fearfully.

"It doesn't matter!" he shouted.

"Yes, it does Edward!" I argued back. "My mom and her dad could get killed because of us — we can't leave them!"

"Edward, she's right," Alice defended.

"Alice, we can't take them home!" he hissed angrily. "How many times do I have to say that?"

"He's no match for us Edward," she tried to assure him. "He won't be able to reach them past the eight of us."

"He'll just wait — and the female is his mate. If this turns into a full-blown fight, the leader will go with them too," he argued.

"We still outnumber them, even if we were to fight against all three of them — there's enough of us," she said with confidence. "Plus, I don't see the other two coming after them — I only see James."
