~second-person pov~

You and Jax eventually made it back to the main area of the circus tent, not rushing, which relived my aching legs as the soreness from the sudden run ebbed. Jax walked with his hands in his pockets, occasionally grabbing the back of my clothing and pulling me in the right direction when I took a wrong turn or began to wander from his side. When we got back to the main tent area and our presence was known, Caine twirled his...cane happily.

"Ah, our lucky winners! Congratulations! I can see how partnering up benefited the both of you, as you can see from your success!" He cheered. I smiled awkwardly, knowing that all I did was follow Jax, but not wanting to speak up and interrupt Caine. Besides, Jax didn't seem too bothered.

"Your prize is..." Caine began to announce. Jax rubbed his gloves together with and awaiting smile as Caine built up the tension.

"NOTHING!"

"WHAT?!" Almost everyone shouted in unison at the thought of not getting a prize if they won.

"That's right! This time, there is no prize! I have been reading  few parenting parenting books, and I have learned that the true reward is the time we spend together. Isn't that wonderful?!"

Everyone was quiet, You looked over to jax, who's eyes were wide and tired and his eye slightly twitching. He sighed through his teeth then leaned back his posture, crossing his arms.

I felt strange. Caine did this once in a blue moon- make another silly game for us and then deny us a prize afterwards, talking about the benefits of 'friendship' and 'bonding' as if we haven't already been stuck here for years and are already sick of each other beyond repair. Though for some odd reason, I felt less mad then I would have been. I didn't have the worst  time with y/n. I mean, sure I could've been doing something better with my time, for satisfying...but I didn't hate the alternative.

I crossed my arms and scoffed, still wanting the keep up the appearance that I was at least kind of mad.

Caine did a happy little dance from his perch in the air. "Well my amiable chums! That's all for today!" With a snap of his fingers, his disappeared in a cloud of smoke.
