song of the chapter:
bad - wave to earth

THE CAFE WAS bustling today, and Haejin tapped her foot impatiently as she waited in line. It was Thursday, and the school holidays were almost over. Haejin was thankful for summer break, but of course she was dreading school. Homework and hypocritical teachers?! No thank you.

The Little Mocha was Haejin's escape from the world. It was a small cafè located just down the road from her block, and was a small, intimate building yet crowding with people. It was the local catch up place for everybody.

Everyone in the town knew each other. It was located just off the outskirts of Seoul, and was a beautiful and serene place, filled with small communities and lots of mountains and scenery.

Haejin was hungry, but that wasn't the only reason she came to The Little Mocha almost everyday. It was mainly because of the boy that worked behind the register.

Coffee Boy. That's what she liked to call him.

He was a senior at her high school, and had now graduated. But that couldn't stop her from practically drooling over him. He was handsome, with hair that fell just above his eyes and a smile that was simply to die for.

"Next!"

Haejin was awoken from her daydream by the dreamy voice of Coffee Boy signaling that it was now her turn to order. She put on her most charming smile and tucked a wild strand of hair behind her ear as she walked towards the register.

"The usual for you today, Miss Jeong?" he asked, smiling that mesmerising smile. Haejin was absolutely whipped. "Warm caramel latte with a shot of espresso and a dash of vanilla? With ice cream?"

Haejin found herself at a loss for words. The most attractive thing a guy could do was remember her coffee order. After all, she couldn't go a day without it.

She merely nodded.

He smiled at her, before taking a cup and scrawling something that might have been her name on with a vivid.

As he met her eyes again, something started to swarm in Haejin's stomach. Something like a warm, buttery feeling, like butterflies were gushing through.

"Take a seat, your order will be ready soon!" he said, extending his right arm so he was directing her towards a two-seater table near the window.

Haejin smiled at him one last time, praying that Coffee Boy was unable to see her blushing cheeks and dilated pupils, not to mention her shaking hands.

Taking a seat, she peered out of the window, letting her elbows rest on the table in front of her. Directly opposite The Little Mocha was the flower shop, a place she remembered her dad used to go to to buy gifts for her mother when they were still together. That all went to hell a couple of years ago, but at least Mom had found a new partner after those years of hardship. Then there was the boutique, a classic hangout space for all the old ladies in town. And of course, right next to it, was the arts and crafts shop, a store Haejin had visited oh so many times each year for school supplies.

Coffee Boy was now walking towards her, and Haejin straightened her back and smiled as he placed her latte in front of her.
