THE DRIVE BACK home was silent. The radio was playing some nice summer music, and I focused on that and the sound of the wind blowing through my window. The trees were swaying, and the stores were beginning to close their shutters, preparing for the nightfall ahead.
When we got home, my dad told me to take a seat at the front island, which I did so, shooting him a tentative look. "What is it that you wanted to tell me?" I asked, resting my elbows on the counter in front of me.
"I've lost my job."
"What?!" I exclaimed, shocked. "Dad, what?"
He took a deep breath before speaking again. "I've been fired."
"Dad, is there something your not telling me?" I asked cautiously, eyeing my father carefully.
"Haejin," he began, running a hand through his hair. "After your mother and I divorced, things were very difficult for me. I was in a lot of debt and I owed a lot of money to a lot of different people.
It took a lot of convincing to get your mother to send you back here to me. I tried to make the transition as easy as possible, but I knew it would be hard.
I ended up being in billions of dollars of debt. I still am." he said with a small smile.
"I got involved in drugs and more bad company, and recently got caught drunk driving. That's why I got fired.
The real reason I wanted to cut my hours short was because I was afraid these people might do something to you. That they might hurt you."
It took me a few seconds to process the information. My dad had hidden a lot of things from me, potentially life threatening information. "Why didn't you tell me this earlier?!" I was angry.
My dad sighed, before looking at me with an apologetic smile. "I didn't want to ruin your education and make you worried. I thought hiding it from you would convince me that I had the situation under control.
But I figured out that hiding it from you would only make things worse when you eventually found out."
His smile had disappeared now, and was replaced with a rather worried look. "The thing is," he said, looking down at the floor and then back at my eyes. "The both of us are in danger."

+ now the real story begins. it's such an interesting plot and i really want to show how people can look really happy on the outside but also have a dark personal life.
i also want to show more of haejins side, and then show jungwons side later on, but focus more on haejin and make her the main character.
this story is going to be really long, but it's gonna be really heart warming.
