Adrien had to manually think about slowing his breathing down or else his emotions would erupt up out into the surface. He knew the day would come. They both knew the day would come. Just because he knew didn't mean he was prepared for it.
"It's time." Marinette gave a gracious nod waiting for him to let go of the Miracle Box to give to her.
How was she ready and he wasn't? It was always a touchy subject in their relationship if they ever did bring it up, which was almost never. It was a hard thing to fathom, it would be a hard thing to go through. They were teenagers when their love story began, it was like saying goodbye to that story even if they were only young adults.
"...I...I-" his voice started to break as the realization hit him of what would happened. All the years of memories and tender moments would be gone.
"Hey," her voice was soft and comforting as she placed a hand to his cheek, "it'll be okay."
"How are you so ready?" The glossiness of his eyes was a hard sight to see on him.
"Bug and cat team remember?" Her kind smile, even now, was able to cheer him up. She had faith in him still. He had to be strong for her, he was going to be strong for her.
He gave a small nod as he straightened up to compose himself. It pained every molecule in him but he let go of his hold on the box and handed it to her. As she turned to face the future guardian, she gave him thankful eyes knowing how difficult it was for him. He knew she had come to terms with it years ago. It didn't make it any less hard though.
Marinette faced the new guardian, a young
prodigy that had taken to training to be one well for the past months. She placed the box in their hands as she said the phrase that Adrien dreaded for years became a reality.She closed her eyes to deliver the line. "I, Marinette Dupain-Cheng, relish the Miracle box and name you as new Guardian."
The box glowed as she said it. Guardianship passed from one to another as simple as that. Adrien took a step towards her, knowing exactly what would happened when he did.
When she opened her eyes she looked around and saw him, "Who are you?" Came out of her mouth. Her beautiful blue eyes looked lost and confused as she looked at his greens.
He took a devastating strong inhale before saying, "I'm Adrien, your fiancé."
~~~
"This is our apartment?" Were the curious words that came out of Marinette's mouth when she stepped inside the door that Adrien unlocked.
"Yeah," he nodded with an accepting sigh of his reality now, "the rent wasn't too bad for what it is. It helped too when you signed to that contract for that spring collection that ended up being a huge success."
"...Collection?"
Anytime she questioned his words it was like a knife to his heart.
Right, she didn't remember that.
"You're a fashion designer." He informed her.
"Oh." She sounded impressed as she continued to look at the open concept living space.
The high ceilings must have added to the value of the space. The kitchen had a connected island that was to her left. There was a nice dining table passed the kitchen. The living room had a huge floor to ceiling window that had a tv and an L-shape couch with it. The chandelier that was in the space also added to the luxury of it. To the right of her was mainly a wall that had two doors on it, presumably one leading to the bathroom and one tot he bedroom. There had to be other income that added to this.
