"Rex."

The name of the clone captain struck me like a thousand suns. His name shone so brightly that it make me smile.

"Katelyn," I replied as I shook his hand, still grinning. I couldn't see his expression from beneath his helmet, but through the force, I could feel his aura radiating. He was a genuinely happy man, despite the troubles of the war. It made me happier. "Nice to meet you. Anakin says a lot about you."

"All good things, I would hope," he replied, chuckling a bit.

I smiled brighter. "All good things, indeed." I let go of his hand, which had been just a little too long of a handshake, but not long enough for me. I wanted to be around Rex all the time already. This was just the beginning.

"Katelyn," came Anakin's voice from behind me. "I see you've met my captain. And this is my padawan, Ahsoka."

The younger girl beside Anakin smiled and shook hands with me. "Ahsoka Tano," she stated again.

I nodded to them, and smiled. "Glad to meet you, Ahsoka. Good to see you again, Anakin."

"You too, Kate, but I'm afraid that's all the time we have for niceties. Rex, can you please debrief her?"

"Of course, sir," Rex said, nodding and pulling up the hologram of the enemy's formation. I listened intently, but couldn't help but feel lighter around this clone. It was unlike anything I'd experienced before, even with my own men. Rex was... different, somehow.

The next few rotations drew out in a grueling battle between our team and the separatists. Many men died and many more still were injured. It was horrible. As our numbers dwindled, it seemed more and more likely we would be exterminated. Finally, we had to retreat, but the separatists wouldn't let us get away that easy. I ran to the escape pods, hoping we'd be able to survive. Two other men were with me, who I didn't know the names of, and then Rex finally entered as well. Our escape pod launched, and we were shot at from all angles. Our pod took damage, but Rex and I were able to steer ourselves down to the small moon nearby. The landing was rough. I was knocked unconcious.

When I woke up, my head was pounding. My whole body ached, and for good reason. I was tangled up between the three clones. I feared the worst as I groaned and attempted to move. I wasn't sure if I was severly injured or just bruised. Nevertheless, I tried to move out from under the three men, but it was no use. They were heavy. Heck, I could barely breathe.

"Captain..." I mumbled, pulling an arm out and trying to shake him awake, since he was on top and surely would be able to help. "Rex..."

I coughed, groaning and trying to breathe. Forced wheezes came from my body as I tried to move out from under them, or wake them. I still feared the worst, and thought I was going to die with them.

Fortunately, Rex groaned a moment later, waking up and slipping off the pile of us. I felt a bit better, but the weight of two men was still pressing into my chest. I let out a wheeze and reached up to him. "Help, please," I said softly, coughing again.

Rex groaned, but nodded, pulling the other two men off of me. I did my best to help, then took in a deep breath, still wheezing. I laid on the ground, dizzy as my blood flowed through my system normally again. Rex took off his helmet and knelt by my side. "General, are you alright?"

I coughed again, rolling onto my side and sitting up, holding my head as the blood rushed to it. I was dizzy, but nodded. "I'm fine, I-I think." I breathed shakily and looked up to him when the world stopped spinning. Admittedly, this had been the first time he had taken off his helmet in my presence in the last few days. I finally saw his face, his hair, and his kind eyes. His face, although the same as every clone, showed his age. He must have been one of the first generations of clones. I couldn't help but smile in his presence.

He looked at me, a little concerned. "What?"

I laughed a bit, but shook my head. "I've just never seen you without your helmet before."

Rex stood and helped me to my feet. He didn't say anything to that, and I looked at him as I leaned against the wall of our escape pod. For just a few moments, I wasn't aware of the dire situation. Rex's presence, knowing I wasn't alone, and his voice took the pain away.

Until it didn't.

Rex sighed as he looked at me. "They're dead."

I let out a soft sigh, and nodded in acknowledgement, coming back to my senses. I looked at the window of the pod, seeing that we were on an incline. I grabbed my lightsaber from my belt and ignited the green blade, cutting a hole through the viewport. I winced and held my side, sighing as I beared the pain. I probably had a broken rib or two from the men landing on me. Rex helped me push the cut piece out, and he climbed out, relatively unscathed. I grabbed his helmet and threw it out to him, then climbed out myself, Rex helping me. We moved to a nearby tree, and he sat me down. "Just a minute," he said, setting his helmet next to me, and going back to the pod. I coughed, then picked up his helmet, humming as I looked it over. Sure, I'd seen it on him, but seeing it up close and personally was different. I could finally stop and examine all the details. I ran my fingers over the blue markings, including the Jaig Eyes. It was personal, and gave only a small snapshot of his personality.

Rex was gone for a few moments, digging around in the pod when he finally emerged, walking over to me with a first aid kit. "Alright, where does it hurt?" He asked, seriousness in his voice, but his tone still light and kind.

"Everywhere," I replied with a small smile. "But, I think I broke a rib or two when you all crushed me."

Rex cracked a small smile, but shook his head. "I'm no medic," he said softly, gently feeling at my left side as I winced, a hand reaching out and gripping onto his shoulder. "But," he continued, "I have the best medic in the Grand Army of the Republic in my legion, and he's taught me a thing or two."

I hummed softly, smiling. "Kix, right? He's got that tattoo?"

"'A good droid is a dead one,' that's right," he replied with another small smile. He got some bandages and bacta out. "Alright, here, let's get some bacta on it and wrap it."

I untied my robes, letting them fall off my shoulders to reveal a sleeveless top beneath all of the layers. I lifted the shirt up to let him see my ribs, which were very bruised. He gently rubbed some bacta on them as I continued to wince and grip my shirt, then sighed softly when it was over. Rex then went to wrapping it, and I had to admit, it was tight. I grunted softly in pain for every time he wrapped the bandages around me, and when it was over, I breathed out and put my shirt down, leaning back against the tree. "Thank you," I said softly to him, looking at his features. For such a tough soldier, his movements and touches were very soft. He was so sweet, something you would never expect from a captain in the Grand Army of the Republic.
