Iris had invited Bill over to carry on her sketch, but she actually had a few other things in mind. Since their kiss a few days ago, they'd seen each other and talked in school, but they hadn't talked about the kiss, or their feelings, or anything remotely important for that matter. Things were unusually awkward in a way they never had been before.
Bill walked into Iris' room and she looked him up and down, so incredibly attracted to his tall, slim build, which was complimented so well by the dark clothes he wore. Bill noticed, biting his bottom lip slightly.
"We gonna talk about what happened?" He asked, sitting next to Iris, extremely close.
"I was hoping we would."
"So you didn't invited me over for the sketch?"
"No, I did. I do need to do my sketch, I was just also counting on you bringing up the, um- The kiss."
"Right."
"So?"
"I don't really know what to say."
"Just tell me you actually feel something."
"Of course I feel something, Iris, you're the most beautiful girl I know. It's just that- God, this is embarrassing. I've never done this before."
"Done what?"
"Any of this. I've made out with two other girls, that's it. I've never been in a relationship, I've never even liked anyone, I'm a- you know."
"You can say virgin, Bill, it's not a curse word."
"Still embarrassing."
"It's not embarrassing! I'm actually really flattered. I mean, to be seventeen and never have liked someone must mean you have super high standards, right? I'm glad to be the first girl you like."
"I guess so."
"And if you're worried about being inexperienced, you're talking to someone who's-"
"Super experienced?"
"That's a stretch. Semi-experienced."
The two laughed. "Listen, I'm not asking you to be my girlfriend just yet, but can we agree on one thing?"
"Go on."
"No one else. I wanna take things slow, this is my first real, like, thing with a girl. And I do want you to be my girlfriend, but I just wanna... how do I say it?"
"Test the waters?"
"Right! That."
"Alright, deal, I won't talk to anyone else, but you have to make me a promise, too."
"Mhm?"
"No sex until you ask me to be your girlfriend."
"Didn't plan on it."
The two stared at each other in pure happiness. It had been a long time coming for them to admit their feelings both to themselves and then to each other, so it was relieving to finally get off their chest.
Their eyes fluttered to stare into the others, then down at their lips. As they began to lean in, Bill's phone rang. His hand reached behind him to the phone and he was gonna decline it, until Iris spoke.
"It's Gustav," she said.
Bill's eyebrows furrowed in confusion. "That's weird, he normally sends me a text before calling."
"Might be important."
"Right."
Bill picked up the phone and answered. Bella couldn't quite understand what Gustav was saying, but he sounded pretty frantic. Bill turned his phone to loud speaker, figuring this was also something Iris needed to hear.
"Gustav, Gustav, calm down," Bill said, although it was evident in his face that he was also panicked, "Where is she?"
"I don't know, that's my issue! God, we said we were gonna take her to a doctor, but she didn't wanna go, so the doctor came to her. We weren't up to the room, the windows wide open. There wasn't even anything hanging out of the window she could've climbed out with, she probably jumped. She could be hurt, Bill!"
Gustav's voice cracked as the two heard concealed sobs through the phone.
"Where's Lucas?" Iris asked.
"He's downstairs, on the phone to Jake. The doctor went back to the hospital, said he was gonna inform some of the other staff involved in Bella's care. They have connections to the police, too, they're gonna see if they can get a search party going if she doesn't come home within the hour."
"Wait, care?"
They heard Gustav curse under his breath.
"Yeah, I, um, I don't know if I can tell you."
"Gustav, why did you call the doctor to her house?"
Gustav sighed. He wasn't gonna tell them about Bella's eating disorder, because, as far as he was aware, this had nothing to do with that and everything to do with the now extremely obvious mania she was experiencing.
"We think she's bipolar, or something similar. The way she's been acting lately, it all points to a manic episode. She went crazy when I mentioned the doctor, she hit me, she stormed into her room, then ran away, obviously. The doctor said that, if she really is experiencing mania, this is super dangerous for her and maybe even for people she comes into contact with."
"Fuck. Listen, you call Georg and Maggie, me ans Bill will call Tom and Gigi, we'll spread out. Did she take the car?"
"No, her mom takes the car to work. We did have a look down the street, Lucas said all of the neighbours cars are where they should be."
"Great," Bill said, "Then she can't have got the far, right?"
"I wouldn't underestimate her," Iris whispered, pressing her thumb over the phone speaker so Gustav didn't hear her, "Right! Let's go, Bill."
As much as everyone wanted to believe that Bella was okay, that she was just going on a walk to clear her head, climbing out of a window with nothing to actually climb with didn't exactly seem 'fine'. They just hoped they got to her before her own mind did.
