You just observed with immense eyes that couldn't shut, as if the world was pulverizing apart in front of you. Unable to tremble. You found yourself completely paralyzed, incapable of comprehending what would happen next. Simon's tall frame dominating the group made it clear that he was serious. Your breaths began to sound staggered when he noticed your still demeanor. Simon grabbed hold of your arm and pulled you around a corner where it was only the two of you. The Saviors stayed put and held their guns pointed at the Zoo Tribe.

"Shh, hey, it's okay, I'm right here," Simon spoke softly in an attempt to calm you down.

"He's d-dead..." You manage to muster.

"I know darling, these things happen."

"He dropped like a fly in front of us..." Even though these things do happen a lot in today's world, it has been quite some time since you last encountered death. "He didn't have to die..."

"The boss would disagree. We did what we had to do..." Simon hugged you, caressing the back of your hair.

"Well, I don't agree with our 'boss'." You said as a tear subsided down your cheek from the aftershock.

"We do what we have to, to survive." He brushed the tear away.

"Are-" The pressure of the situation and built-up emotion caused you to break through suppressed sentiment. "Never mind." You quickly expressed.

"What?"

"Nothing."

"No, you started...so what were you going to say?"

"...I was just thinking..." You realize you have cracked and are about to share deep inner thoughts on fleeing. "What if...you and I left the Sanctuary, left Negan, started our own lives and you can be your own boss? Instead of listening to another person's rules. You can finally be done being second-in-command. And-"

"Y/N. That's absurd. We have all we need where we are back at the Sanctuary. We have food, water, and a roof over our heads. Sure Negan can be a little much sometimes, but we're grateful for all he does for us." He sounded brainwashed.

"Yeah, it was just a thought." You sighed.

"Why don't you wait back in the truck, and relax, while the boys and I load up with supplies. And get the hell out of this zoo. I miss my bed and you in it." He winked and kissed your temple.

"I'll go warm up the truck." You shared a smile with him.

You sat in the passenger seat of the E-350. Waiting for Simon and the rest of the Saviors to return while thinking about the previous conversation. Absurd. The things Simon had to say about leaving kept spewing on repeat in your mind. It truly hurt how he wouldn't accept the opportunity to escape together, but at the same time, you did understand his attachment to the Sanctuary and the burdens he has there. It felt like being torn in half wanting your freedom but also wanting to be with the man you could now admit you love. You had no idea what to consider.
