I was so excited to update, so here you go :) I will post chapter 7 tomorrow too.

Izan

As I made sure the boy in her arms was Alvaro, my little brother, something snapped in me when a man grabbed the woman by her shirt and started dragging her back. He was manhandling her so viciously, and my temper got the best of me.

I pulled out my gun, opened the window, and shot him in the forehead before I parked the car to a stop.

Since it happened so fast, the woman was in a daze, shocked at the blood and dead man, but I was more worried about Alvaro. I looked over at him. He was sleeping, snoring even in her arms, making me relax for a second.

"Get in," I demanded, but she did not move. So, I shoved her inside the car when more men joined in, with guns in their hands, ready to shoot. I wasted no time and killed every last one of them before they got the chance to pull their triggers or step any closer to my car.

"Alvaro, buddy..." I heard her call for my brother, and I got in after I made sure no man was left alive. "Time to wake up," she patted his cheeks gently and stroked his hair out of his face.

I could tell she was innocent. Based on her dirty, ripped attire, she was probably abducted as well.

When I cleared my throat, she snapped her head up and glanced at me through the rearview mirror. "I didn't kidnap him, I swear," she started, and I sensed that she was nervous.

"My boyfriend or ex-boyfriend did kidnap him, though I never considered him my boyfriend, but I didn't do anything bad. I tried to stop him when I saw what was happening but got kidnapped in the process. I don't even like the ugly duckling sucker. I escaped from him, but Murphy's law never left me alone as I found myself in a freaking different state face to face with him not a day after-"

"Can you shut up?" I groaned as I felt the headache resurface.

She's a chatter mouth.

She shut her lips, bit on them, but then sighed. "Sorry, I tend to babble when I'm nervous. I just need to find this little boy's family and be on my way, though I have nowhere to go, but I will manage since-"

"¿Qué parte de 'cállate' no entendió?" I muttered, not expecting her to know Spanish, but she fucking smiled, irritating me beyond belief.

"I apologize. I don't know when to shut up."

I sighed. "Alvaro's my brother." I decided to release the burden off her shoulders, but she didn't relax just yet.

"How do I know you're his brother and not some pedophile?" She tightened her grip on his sleeping body, and I almost grinned at her protective instincts. Almost.

"I just said his name," I stated, thinking it would be enough to convince her, but she scoffed at me and rolled her eyes. She was not fazed that I had killed those men earlier. She was not afraid of me.

"I called him by his name not a few minutes ago, and I know you heard me. I need more than that to believe you, and he's sleeping too soundly to wake him up just to confirm your identity."

She's clever and cautious too.

I looked at her through the rearview mirror and could not resist admiring her eyes. They were dark turquoise, a rare eye color that suited her small face and pitch-black hair. "Here," I pulled out his ID from the box. I always kept extra ID cards for everyone in my family for emergencies.

I handed her the card, and she then sighed when she went over it and smiled. "Good. I'm Verena Amaryllis, what's your name?" She introduced herself, but my hands tightened on the steering wheel at the mention of her last name.

"Dexter Amaryllis," I stated, and she lost her smile for a split second but then stroked Alvaro's hair, playing it off.

"He's my dad." She glared at no one in particular. "I'm indifferent toward him, which is worse than hate if you ask me." Her rugged tone indicated she wasn't on good terms with her father, and I nodded at that.
