"Well?" Carter asked while he took a threatening step toward me. Anger and annoyance appeared on his face, and his eyes grew a darker color that I didn't like and prayed that I would never see again. "Answer me, Anastasia. Why are you here?"

I opened my mouth but not a sound escaped. My heart pounded hard in my chest going a steady thump, thump, thump, sounding like a runaway train and filling the silence that lingered between us.

Carter chuckled coldly and shook his head, and his eyes flashed to another darker color. "Of course, you don't answer," he said darkly. "I don't know why I thought someone so weak minded would."

"Don't listen to him," Alexia said sadly, and her voice shook slightly. Pain filled her voice while she looked at her ex-mate. "You aren't weak-minded, Anastasia. He's letting the anger and fear speak and not himself."

I closed my eyes and flinched but didn't say a word. My heart stopped before it started again, still going at its rapid pace in my throat.

Goddess, save me, I silently prayed, my whole body shaking while the fear that I felt came off in waves. Please. I don't want him to be mad at me.

Carter growled and took a threatening step into the room, the anger he brought with him making it harder for me to breathe. "Well?" he asked with a snarl in his voice. "Why are you here?" he asked while he bared his teeth at me.

"Tell him the truth," Alexia said softly. "Tell him that you felt something pulling you to this room, so you went in. Apologize if you broke any of his boundaries, but you needed to be here. You needed to remember."

I licked my lips and looked down, not able to meet his gaze. "I-I was called here," I said, my voice cracking and barely above a whisper. I cleared my throat and shifted on my feet while I looked away from him. "I-I'm sorry f-for breaking any of your boundaries, Carter. I-I didn't mean to."

Carter snarled and gritted his teeth. He narrowed his eyes further and took another threatening step towards me, and I backed away from him, looking at him with wide eyes. "And what is that supposed to mean?" he asked.

"I-I-" I couldn't finish my sentence and shook my head. "I-"

"You what?" he asked with a small snarl on his face when I didn't finish saying another word instead of "I-". "What is that supposed to mean?"

"Unfortunately, you aren't able to tell him that I am here," my sister said, softly.

I didn't respond to her while I looked at him, shaking. "I'm sorry," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. "I-I can't say. I-I was called here."

"Get out," he snarled, and I flinched but didn't say a word. "I said get out!" He pointed out the door. "Leave. Just fucking leave already and never come back!"

I did what I was told to do and ran out the door, leaving the blanket, my sister, and my mate behind.

Goddess, save me.

Please.

I ran into the woods in blind terror, not knowing if he followed me or not. My whole body was tense, and I was shaking a lot more than usual, which shouldn't have been a surprise.

As soon as I reached the woods, I stumbled and fell to the ground, landing hard on my hands and knees with a soft thud.

My whole body shook while I crawled to the edge of the path and sat down, trying but failing to regulate both my heart and my breathing, and my breathing became short and raspy while I panicked.
