Isen waved his hand, and a bag of Elden Berries appeared in my hand just as someone knocked on the door to my bedroom. The male looked at the door and scowled before he turned to look at me. "Oh look, the Alpha is here," he said dryly. "How fascinating."

I took a deep breath and turned my gaze to see the male by the door. My heart pounded in my chest, and a sense of fear and dread filled my body. I had no idea why I was scared, but it might be because he was very angry that I was alone in the room with Isen and Alexandria.

Carter glared at Isen before he folded his arms across his chest. "Why are you here?" he asked coldly. "I thought you left."

"I did, but I am back." He shrugged his shoulders. "I was going to do a test with your daughter, but I think I will wait until you are gone before I do it."

Carter growled and took a threatening step forward towards Isen. Anger brewed just below the surface, and his eyes showed the anger that he was feeling. "Do what?" he asked, his voice dark. "Exactly?"

"Make sure that if she has powers, they won't appear while she is this young," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. I involuntarily took a step back when Carter turned his seething gaze towards me. A lump appeared in my throat, and it took all my self-control not to cringe under his hard gaze.

He scared me, to be honest. He had such bad anger issues that I couldn't help but wonder what caused him to be this way for his wolf to be as angry and defensive as his human form.

Carter seemed to know that he was scaring me, so he closed his eyes and took in a deep breath through his nose, his nostrils flaring wide open.

Slowly, he let out a soft breath of air with a slight whoosh while his body became more relaxed than it was. Finally, he nodded and opened his eyes, the anger still there but not as prominent as before he did whatever he did. "Of course," he said through gritted teeth. He looked at Isen. "I am sorry," he said. "Forgive me?"

"Don't look at me," Isen said from where he was leaning more forward over a silent Alexandria, who was watching him with a bag of berries in her hands. He nodded to me, but Carter didn't look at me yet. "Apologize to your mate. She was the one that you scared the most." "Are you sure..?"

"Don't." I placed my hands behind my back when Carter turned his gaze to me. They shook with such force that I would have dropped the berries all over the floor if Isen hadn't been paying attention and took the bag from me again.

My gaze was solely on my mate while he entered more into the room and walked over to me. My feet were rooted to the ground, and it took all of my self-control to keep standing when my legs felt they were shaking so hard.

Finally, he stopped in front of me, and up close, I noticed specks of golden brown pooled into his brown eyes. His gaze flickered across my face, and he didn't reach to touch me, and I was grateful but upset for some reason.

"Forgive me," he said, his voice hollow. His hand twitched, and I had a feeling that he wanted to touch me, but he didn't. He held back for some reason and built a wall around himself that further kept him away from me. "I didn't mean to scare you."

"B-"

"Isen," I hissed, interrupting him. I cleared my throat and licked my dry lips, trying to get the lump out of my throat. "Ummmm..." I cleared my throat again and looked away from him. "O-o-ok."

"Ok?" he asked, and I could hear the eyebrow raised in his voice. "Just ok?"

I didn't reply and only nodded. I couldn't speak more because of the lump in my throat, and there was no way that I could dislodge it, even though all I wanted to do was say something, anything that would help this male understand what I was feeling.

Carter hesitated but reached out and touched me. His touch was warm, gentle even, while he lifted my chin until I looked him in the eye.

His eyes were a lighter brown, and he studied me. His scent filled my nose and wrapped around me like a gentle blanket. His presence was both comforting and intimidating, and I wondered if it would always be like this.

I wondered if I would get this man that had more mood swings than any other male I knew.

"I am sorry," he said, the words sounding so foreign when they came from his mouth. "Forgive me. I didn't mean to scare you." His voice was soft and gentle, and there was nothing angry about his voice or touch.

My mouth went dry, and I tried to nod my head but couldn't because he still had a hold of my chin.

"She forgives you," Isen said from the bed. "She can't talk because her mouth went dry."

Carter scowled at Isen and took his hand off of my chin. He turned to look at me and nodded his head towards Isen. His meaning clear. He wanted to know if he had to deal with Isen daily.

"He pops up now and then," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. "He's a good friend."

Carter raised an eyebrow and frowned. Jealousy filled his eyes, and I knew that he thought we were together.

"I have a mate already," Isen said, and Carter looked at him. He took a berry from the bag he gave Alexandria and grinned, popping it into his mouth. "She is just mad at me for some reason."

I rolled my eyes and scowled. "She is always mad at you," I said. "What else is new?"

"Nothing," Isen replied. "I just thought he should know before he tried to kill me, which would have been impossible unless he knew the proper techniques."

I rolled my eyes again and rubbed the bridge of my nose before I shook my head with a loud huff. "Can we just get this done so you can go?"

"Certainly," Isen said. He nodded to Carter. "He just needs to behave because I know what I am doing. Is that understood?"

Carter scowled and walked over to the wall. He leaned against it and folded his arms across his chest. "Fine," he gruffed. "But know that I don't trust you."

Isen didn't reply and looked at Alexandria. He took the bag from her and smiled cheerfully while he let the bag disappear. "Ready?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Ready," Alexandria chirped, grinning widely. Her eyes sparkled with excitement, and I could tell that she enjoyed these a lot.

"Alright," Isen replied and clapped his hands together. "So, let us begin."
