Chapter 5: What am I? (unedited)

The demon steps back frightfully not knowing what he was looking at. As I step closer he yells "stay back, are you my master or my enemy?" he lets out a yell calling demons from all around the area. The ground starts to shake demons big and small start rushing towards us. From open holes in buildings and streets they came. I waved my hand at them like I did last time, but nothing happened. I stand confused looking at my hand not understanding what happened to my powers or how to use them. The monster came closer with each moment but I remember what the smaller monster said back at the station. It was confused about me being its master or not. In that moment I cleared my throat and whispered "kneel" all the monsters in the area froze, dropping to the ground frightened. I bring my gaze towards the demon, its head is that of an ostrich... "what? What is this?" As I move towards him, he springs up wielding his sword ready to strike but my angelic wings take the blow rusting the demon's sword. The demon goes into more of a panic questioning everything "who are you? Why do you have two different sets of wings? You can't be my master!" I pause to look at the wings covering my body. I grin and say "why I would want to be the master to the likes of you." In a furry he yells "get up you lowlives he's not one of us get your head out the dirt and attack him" the small horde of demons begin to rise and scream realizing i wasn't one of them. I guess this boosts their morale but it doesn't matter. My wings begin to change and a crown of feathers begin to manifest floating on the top of my head. Suddenly a voice speaks to me, "raise your hand and call upon your power." with no second thoughts I raise my hand chanting the words "come" lights start to pierce the now night skies. A shower of swords come swooping in to attack the demons that stand in front of me. Their bodies start to rot like the demon 20 years ago but of course the only one standing is the twisted bruit in front of me. He charges me with his sword at the ready. The voice speaks to me again "grab the girl and her weapon and dodge to safety she won't survive the shock of this attack." I take her and the metal pole then another voice starts to speak "unhand me and my master this instant" sigh what am i even getting myself into everyones trying to yell and command me. "Did you not hear me let me go THIS INSTANT" the pole starts to grow and a beautiful weapon shows itself. "You have no right to hold me you..." suddenly the pole redacts its statement when seeing my appearance. I look at the weapon and ask if I could use it this one time. It Hesitates but says " ill allow it. I fly to the roof of a building and ask what can you do? Placing the young girl on the floor. The scythe responds with the power you have, we can annihilate this surrounding area." tempting i say but let's keep it minimal. The scythe instructs me to point it towards an enemy I wish to wipe away. I point towards the demonoid running towards our location. The scythe says repeat after me " Oh fallen star" oh fallen start " I cast upon thee" I fall upon thee "to cast the enemy a new" TO CAST THIS PLACE A NEW. "Wait, I SAID ENEM..." As the attack ready's the scythe starts to panic, "we must leave this area immediately!" but i didn't bother listening. The tip of the scythe releases a cube and starts falling slowly to the base of the building. " My lord, may you please snap your fingers. I need to let you know something this instant" I obliged. I snap my fingers, freezing time all around us. The scythe leaves my hand and hovers in front of. It explains " we must leave this area, that cube that has left me will destroy this entire area and reset its time! the girl will not survive. I grab the girl and fly as far away from the area. That's when I noticed it Lights on the bridge heading towards the city. I rush towards them. As I reach the bridge I ask the weapon how to do it. I resume the time it says "SNAP always snap" I snap my fingers resuming time the vehicles on the bridge stop i float towards them with nothing to say a man comes out in a panic. "You there" he says "What are you doing with Veronika '' I move closer... he readies his weapon and everyone surrounds me. I ask "Do you know this girl?" He says yes "she's my daughter." I see... I lay her down and tell them that she needs medical attention and they must not enter the city. He stands over her body confused, asking me what happened? I tell him, only she can tell you that "and what about the ci..." a blinding light flashing behind me consuming everything in the area. I look towards the man and state "what city?" all the people in the surrounding area looked terrified. I look around confused, forgetting what the emotion like fear feels like. I walked up to what seemed to be the leader of this group of people and told him to please take care of her and also I managed to grab the hands of one of your companions. I believe she was very kind but sadly I could not save her. I prepare my wings to fly away and he stops me. He wanted to ask me questions about what I knew and if I could keep the secret of him being the young girl's father. I relax my wings and turn around. I tell him "fine" we walk towards the vehicle he looks at and says Hey "could you by any chance put these wings away "I pause ... how the fuck am i supposed to do that. I tell him to give me a min, I'm still new to this. I take a breath focusing on retracting my wings into my body one by one each wing starts to vanish but instead of going into my body they form winged tattoos on my body and my feathered crown turned into a mental band around my neck with winged symbols carved into it. I looked towards the group and told them I was ready. The old man screams "get the man some clothes!'' I look down confused... Oh right haha my clothes didn't survive being turned to stone. A cloth cloak gets tossed to me, I examine it and ask if you have anything darker. The old man says, "What do we look like in a mobile thrift store?" Now get in the car, we are heading back to the city. I step into the car and sit, the old man asks, "So do you have a name?" I tell him it's "Asher '', He says oh nice name haven't ran into an asher before he laughs. I ask him what his name might be? He says "call me lance, i'm the guild leader of the Impandal guild'. I stare at him confused. What do you mean guild? He says what have you been living under a rock? I give him a sarcastic expression and say "Something like that" He says asher be honest with me... I nod at him as he looks at me from the front mirror. He asked a number of questions '' where are you from? What are you? What's with those Wings why does it look like a demon and angel?" I told him that's a bit overwhelming to ask since I just woke up he nodded but I told him I still see myself as a human. He looks at me confused, "human?" I nodded and proceeded to explain everything that happened. Time goes by and his facial expressions have turned and changed, his face morphing with confusions and sadness. I also made sure to inform him of everything I witnessed and heard during his team's execution. After a while of talking we finally get to a huge wall with lights, lance turns around and says welcome to Arcadia, one of the last cities in the world. The massive gates opened and a beautiful city of lights appeared in front of me with an old building covered in metal plates and a new building being constructed. Adventures running up and down the street and families doing shopping at the market. I tell Lance I'm surprised we survived, he looks in the mirror and smiles. Kid you don't even know.... Kid? I say i'm 40 i think he stops the car in a halt 40! I tell him not to quote me on it because I don't know how long I've really been asleep for. He rubs his head and says alright I can't believe you're only 20 years younger then me. I'm gonna drop you off at the city's inn wash up and I'll have someone bring you clothes. When you're all dressed and ready come by the infirmary I want you to properly introduce yourself to Veronica and tell her what you told me. Oh and remember, keep me being her father a secret. I'm not ready to face her yet. I nod, we pull up to the inn and we get out. Lance calls the clerk and asks them to get a bath ready for me and a nice room. Suddenly the Tv turns on reporting what happened today. With the massive explosion luckily they didn't know it was me. Fix my hood in a cold sweat. The last thing I need is people thinking of me as a monster. The clerk calls me over with a key in his hand telling me that my room is ready with a bath, I nod and say thank you. I take the key and start heading up stairs. Reaching the top, Lance says to me "be ready soon you're gonna meet my associate of mine Kai" I nod once again finally heading towards my room. I opened the room door and to my surprise the room looked amazing. What did this old man give me? The master is sweet. I take a look around inspecting the room's brick walls with plants hanging around the roop and a nice big window that blackens with a touch of a button. Don't even get me started on how big the bed is. I ran to the bathroom to see how the hot bath looked and to my surprise it was huge. The bath was basically like a pool long enough for me to lay on my back and just float. In one excited movement i rip off my cloak and hop in the bath. The sensation of water touching my skin fills me with so much joy and emotions. I splash around for feels like hrs, finally burning myself out i lay there floating relaxed thinking about all that has passed and is yet to come. I slowly begin to zone out soon after I hear knocks at my room's door. I get up from the bath and toss on my robe and head to the door. Open the door to a green haired person with a massive paintbrush on their back they look up at me and grin "you must be asher i'm Kaiyu it's nice to meet you" before i can get a word out They proceed to hand me clothes and say "were on a tight schedule take these clothes and find your way to the infirmary i look forward to working with you" and just like that they ran off. I scratch my head in confusion "what just happened" i put the clothes on and turned to the mirror wow they really got some style and it has slits for my wings. Man lance out did himself in a short amount of time. I grab my keys and head out, map in hand. I start looking around the city, the night sky and the city light looks so nice and calm but ... where am i? If i could i would use my wings to fly and look around but i don't think people would be mentally ready to see something flying around their city. Suddenly I felt a vibration in my pocket. It startled me. It was a glove with a watch on it. Suddenly a face appears, its lance. He says there is something wrong with Veronika. You need to come fly if you have to. Welp i got the green light summoning my wings i take off in the middle of the crowded intersection. Little did I know I might have caused one of the biggest stirrups in this new city's history. I follow the digital map on my hand tracking the location of the infirmary. I come to a sudden stop and I see wires surrounding me as if someone attempted to stop me in my tracks. I look around but I don't sense anyone near me, with no time to think someone jumps on me trying to string me up with wires. I fell out of the sky landing on top of a nearby roof. I'm only a couple blocks from the infirmary what is going on. I hear footsteps walking towards me, I look up and to my surprise it was an adventurer. He puts his foot on my head and says for a demon you're pretty weak. I look at him dumb founded and say you must be mistaken. He says to me "nah i'm not! your gonna fetch me a promotion and a nice raise" he takes his foot off me walking away hyping himself. Meanwhile I stand up, ripping the wires around me and taking off again. He screams "wait Where do you think you're going" He chases me jumping from rooftop to rooftop. I finally make it to the infirmary rushing inside. I speak to the clerk asking where the guild leader might be. She says you must be "asher he's down the hall in the operating room" I run down the hall to the operating room barging through the door. Lance looks at me in a panic and tells me that veronika's wounds won't heal. I ask him what could I do to help, he says he heard angels have the power to heal and I stare at him in confusion. I let him know " I'm still new to this, I don't know how to heal." Lance's eyes start to gloss up. I put my hand on his shoulder and say I can try something but don't panic. He nods, I walk towards the metal pole to speak to Veronika's weapon. I pick it up and the scythe begins to wake up. Before I get the chance to speak to it, strings begin to rap around my body and a loud burst comes out the door. It's that damn adventurer. Lance turns around and yells "Zay for crying out loud leave him alone he's with me." zay comments back "what do you mean he's with us? He's a demon, look at him?" Lance sighs and continues to tell zay to let me go. With an unwilling motion zay releases the strings around me. I call upon the weapon to wake up. Lance and Zay's face light up in shock wondering why something like this was next to veronika. Suddenly without me doing anything, time stops for everything outside of the room. The scythe starts to speak, projecting its voice to not only me but to lance and zay. " You have summoned me my lord, how may I be of help" I begin to explain the situation letting it know I need to save its master but it needs to teach me how to heal a wound a demon makes. The scythe goes on to say "fret not my lord, summon your wings and pluck a feather out." i listen " good now take my blade and give yourself a cut, smother your blood onto the feather and place the feather onto her wound." i walk towards veronika's body laying the feather onto her back. Suddenly the feather disappears, mending her skin together. I tell the weapon thank you it responds "I look forward to working with you and my new master" turning itself back into a metal pole. Lance and zay snap out of the confusion. "Is it done lance says" i nod and tell him to make sure to let her rest. I look at zay with a straight face and proceed to let him know i shall be excusing myself. He yells wait! Lance putting his hand in front of zay telling him for the last time to stand down. I walked out of the infirmary making my way back to the inn to get some rest because today was really something. I'm in a new city and people are all walking around as if nothing happened. After some time of walking I finally made it to the inn. I headed up the stairs to my room. I open the door to my nice big bed, taking my clothes off and smothering my face in a pillow. Can't wait to see what tomorrow has to offer. I doze off and the next morning comes around. Immediately something doesn't feel right. I start to move my arms around and to my surprise I can feel the edge of the bed. Opening my eyes I look around and see myself hanging from the corner of the bed. I push myself back on to the bed, fixing my body and turning around. To my surprise Verokina was in my bed. I look around in confusion. Suddenly my door starts to open and with a burst of energy lance rushes in yelling "Asher! Veronika! She's GONE... What's going on here? What do you think you're doing with my daughter.'' I yell back "WAIT SIR I SWEAR IT'S NOT WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE!" Suddenly time stops and the scythe speaks " its my fault i forgot to tell you after giving up your blood veronika is now attached to you and needs to be next to you when injured she will now heal all injuries and ailments as long as your close to her... and i mean close my lord" my heart drops feeling the the animosity and hate coming from lance. I begged him to understand I didn't know this was gonna happen. He approaches me and puts his hand on my shoulder. " I treated you like a son. I gave you a place to stay, Clothes on your back and you do this to me?" Lance i... he shushes me " Take my daughters hand in marriage" everything around me shatters! WHY IS EVERYTHING MOVING SO FAST! Suddenly veronika wakes up rubbing her eyes. Soon after her face starts to blush red hot. She grabs her weapon, her hair turning white and eyes turning green. She yells why are you all in here and where are my clothes and Just like I got a metal pole to the back of the head knocking me out... I guess this is my new life but I have a feeling it's not something that's gonna be a blessing but a curse.
