Back when I was just a lad, seems like only yesterday

When out of the blue this fellow rolls up, this peddler in gray

Bringing with him fireworks in blue and green

That burst into the finest displays ever seen

Thunderous golden showers fit for kings and queens

But today he fell from our sight

Today he put the Balrog to flight

Today we lost our guiding light

Our friend Gandalf the Grey

With this grey pilgrim, our way seemed clear

His trumpet-voice chased away all doubt and fear

Back bent with a load of unknown size

He still has a great many surprise

And tales gathered upon the road

This lord among the wise

But today he fell from our sight

Today he put the Balrog to flight

Today we lost our guiding light

Our friend Gandalf the Grey

His thorny staff became a fiery brand

Against the Balrog he took a mighty stand

And fought with his deadly sword

But we no longer have his healing hand

As today he fell from our sight

Today he put the Balrog to flight

Today we lost our guiding light

Our friend Gandalf the Grey

Farewell dear Gandalf the Grey
