~SINCLAIR~

Sin and his Keepers were in the woods.

It was a bright and beautiful day, one he'd rather spend cozying up with Vannie. Cooking for Vannie. Looking after Vannie.

But he was doing something for Vannie right now, so that counted for something. She was about to go into another heat, and Zara told him the best way to keep fae comfortable was to build them a love nest.

So yes, he was gathering materials to build his female a nest. His Keepers had caught wind of this commitment, and we're adamant on helping him. Now, they had more wood than they could ever need, but he wasn't complaining. She'd be aghast when she saw the final results. He'd be proud.

Oh, and Daffodil was on for this ride, too.

He took up the pup, carefully gathering him into a satchel. His Keepers looked at him like he'd grown horns and a tail when they saw how gentle he was. "What?" He scoffed, but he was smiling. "You know your Queen. She'll rip my head clean off of my throat if anything happens to this pup."

Affectionate laughter speared the air. They loved her. His people loved his woman.

And it was enough. Maybe one day, she too would love them with the same soul-binding devotion that they did her.

Some of them picked flowers for their mates, but Sin would always win on that round. Their mates were getting flowers, his mate was getting flowers and a love nest.

"Do you reckon the Queen will cry for joy when she sees what you've planned?"

Sin thought about it, hauling a large sack of wood onto his back. "No. I reckon she'll give me a punch straight in the jaw and return to her room."

They laughed again. This was the first time the atmosphere had been light between him and his Keepers for as long as he could remember, and he couldn't even be pissed about how soft he was getting. It was the Vannylla effect. Also, the forest was a very good stress reliever for wolves. It was the natural habitat of one-half of them, so it made sense that there was a sense of calm here.

After a full day of chopping and sawing and assembling, Sin and his Keepers finally had the mini house completed. It was a glorified tree-house with maybe just a little too much space.

"Do you like it?" one of the Keepers-In-Training asked. Now that it was completed, Sin was a little nervous about it. He truly thought Vannie might punch him, but he didn't want her to do so because he'd done a shitty job.

"It looks good. I'll come back tomorrow and give it some finishing touches before the Queen can see it." And also bring some supplies to really turn this into a habitable place.

And food. She'd need a lot of food. "Thank you, Keepers. You can retire for the night."

They were too well-trained to disobey a direct order, so even though they looked confused at his dismissal, they bowed and marched back towards the rest of society, taking Daffodil with them. Sin took off his clothes and let the daemon take control.

It had been a long week. Vannie made everything better just by being close, but it was obvious she was still haunted by the wars they'd fought. That was only one of the reasons building a home in the woods seemed like a good idea to him, because it would take her far away from the chaos of the Inlands.

He felt her nudging his mind a second before her voice came, clear and teasing, through the pack link. "Having a run without me?"

His daemon ran faster then, as though her acknowledgement made him want to show off the more. She wasn't even there, for fuck's sake. "How do you know I'm running?"

"I can hear your paws. Where are you? Are you close? Could you pick me a jar of oil from the apothecary?"

He didn't even think to tell her no, the apothecary was out of his way, and he wouldn't be able to help her. He knew the future probably held a Vannie and their pups who were utterly spoilt rotten, and he didn't know how to not want that. "Yes. Anything else?"

She was silent for a bit. "Why are you thinking of me and pups?"

He almost skid to a halt. How could she— "Okay, Vannie. That was very creepy."

She scoffed. "You think I want to know what you're thinking? Well, I guess sometimes I do, but now isn't one of those times. Sin! We haven't even mated yet."

How she managed to whisper 'mated' through their link, he didn't know, but it was hilarious. Or it would be if he hadn't been going to bed with a serious case of blue balls every night, caught between desperation and pleasure at her being close in the first place. "I do know that. My mind has just been going crazy these past few days. I want to give you pups."

Ah, well. It was out there now, wasn't it? She sighed in response, a very dramatic sigh that made him want to be near her so he could kiss it off her mouth. "I guess you'll just have to come here and give them to me, won't you?"

He did stop then, dead in the middle of the forest like an idiot. She disconnected from the link after that bombshell, giving him the idea that she'd just been teasing. It was still enough to knock him over the head.

And almost enough to distract him from a scent that didn't belong. Sin, instantly on alert, sniffed some more, an urge to prey filling his lungs. He already knew the owner of the vinegar scent, but wanted to be sure. When he was, he took a hold of the wolf's mind without preamble.

"You know it is rude to visit another Alpha's territory without an invitation, Enoch Alba."
