EHMEL!!

As I watched my best friend Raha getting covered in yellow haldi paste, I couldn't help but feel a twinge of excitement. Today was her haldi ceremony, and it was one of the many pre-wedding rituals in our culture.

Mrs. Tazmeer, Raha's mother, noticed my eagerness and came over to me with a mischievous twinkle in her eye. "Ehmel dear, now it's your turn," she said, smiling warmly at me.

I couldn't contain my excitement as I walked towards Raha, who was beaming with happiness. "My turn for what, aunty?" I asked, pretending to be clueless.

Raha giggled, knowing exactly what her mother meant. "To get haldi applied, silly!" she exclaimed, handing me a bowl of the yellow paste.

I took a handful of haldi and playfully applied it on Raha's face, making sure to leave a trail of yellow on her nose. "Oops, sorry!" I said, trying to stifle my laughter.

Raha's mother joined in, applying haldi on my face as well. "You know, Ehmel, you are like a daughter to me. I am so happy to see you here, celebrating this special day with us." She said,

Tears welled up in my eyes as I hugged her. "Thank you, aunty, You and your family mean everything to me," I replied, feeling grateful for their love and acceptance.

As we continued to apply haldi on each other, Raha's cousin, Natasha, joined in on the fun. She was always the life of the party and her energy was infectious. "Ehmel, you are looking so beautiful with haldi on your face. I think we should keep it on forever," she joked, making us all laugh.

I had turmeric all over my face, so I was going to get some tissues near the pool. As I made my way towards the pool, I noticed that there was some water near the edge. I should have been more careful, but I was too preoccupied with my turmeric-covered face. Before I knew it, I had slipped and was about to fall into the pool.

Every muscle in my body tensed up as I braced myself for the impact of hitting the water. But just as I was about to fall, I felt a strong pair of arms wrap around me and pull me back. I let out a scream, my heart racing with fear and adrenaline. But then, I felt a familiar warmth and a familiar scent. It was Salar.

I slowly opened my eyes, and my breath caught in my throat. Salar was looking at me with concern in his eyes, and he had a small smile on his face. His haldi-covered face made him look even more handsome.

I couldn't believe that I was in his arms, so close to him. I could feel his heart beating against mine, and I couldn't help but hug him tightly. It was as if I had come back to my senses.

As I hugged him, I could feel the haldi from my face rubbing off onto his cheeks. But he didn't seem to mind. In fact, he wrapped his arms around me and held me even closer.

We stood there for what felt like an eternity, lost in each other's eyes. I couldn't believe that this was happening. Salar, the guy I had been fighting with for so long, was holding me in his arms.

But then, reality hit me. I quickly pulled away from him and looked down, feeling embarrassed. I had just hugged him without his permission, and now I didn't know what to say.

But Salar surprised me once again. He gently lifted my chin and made me look at him. "Are you okay?"he asked, his voice filled with genuine concern.

I nodded, unable to form any words. He smiled and then chuckled. "Well, I guess we both have haldi on our faces now," he said, pointing to his own haldi-covered cheeks.

I couldn't help but laugh at the situation. Here we were, standing by the poolside, both covered in haldi, and yet, I couldn't be happier.

After that, Raha's family shared stories of their own haldi ceremonies. Mrs. Tazmeer told us about how her mother-in-law had applied haldi on her face while singing traditional songs, and Raha's father reminisced about how his friends had played pranks on him during his haldi.

I couldn't help but feel grateful for being a part of Raha's family. They had always welcomed me with open arms and treated me as their own. I remembered the time when I had first met Raha in high school, and we had instantly clicked. It was like we were destined to be best friends.

As the haldi ceremony came to an end, we all took a group photo, our faces covered in haldi. It was a moment I would cherish forever, a memory of love, laughter, and friendship.
