"YOU DO?"

Ghost chuckles in response. "Yes. I do."

Her cheeks hurt from her wide grin. "I love you too, Simon."

He leans down to kiss her again, a knock at the door pulling them apart. He slides his mask back on before he answers it. Soap stands at the door. He looks between them, and a smirk flashes across his face.

"Ready to go, Lt?" he asks.

Ghost nods, voice firm as he replies. "Yes. Let's load up." Before walking out the door, he approaches Ellie, leaning close to her. "You stick by Price. If Graves tries anything, I'll know."

"I'm sure I'll be fine, Ghost." She squeezes his hand gently and walks him to the door. "Be careful you two. Kick some tail."

"You got it, Gizmo," Soap replies with a wink. "I'll keep him in line."

"Someone's got to."

"Alright, you two," Ghost says. He's already back in his professional mode. "Keep us posted out there, Ellie."

She salutes him as they leave, leaning against her doorframe while watching them go. Soon she will be heading out with Price and Gaz to Urzikstan. After a few hours of waiting, they're flying out, orange sun shining as the three of them sit in the plane.

"Miller," Price says as he stands and walks to the back of the plane, waiting on Ellie to go to him. She gives Gaz a look as she does so. "I'll be keeping a close eye on you today. Don't run off anywhere, yeah?"

"Yes sir," she replies. "How mad was Ghost when you told him?"

Price laughs darkly as he rubs his beard. "No words."

"I figured as much." Ellie takes in a deep breath. "I'm just ready for this to be over."

"Soon." He pats her shoulder. "We've got some down time till we land. Let's go over our game plan."

The next day, the 141 is gathered around the screen with Farah, Ellie staring intently at the clip. Soap and Ghost successfully stopped the attack at the dam and in Urzikstan — well, Shadow did great. However, none of them are convinced Makarov was there in the helicopter crash. No one except Shepherd seemed to think so... if anything he just wanted a medal.

This is why now, watching him and Graves in front of the US Congress, brings up uncomfortable feelings for Ellie.

"General Shepherd," the congressperson begins to ask, saying, "in October of 2022 did you authorize Shadow Company to fire on a task force under your command in Las Almas, Mexico?"

Ellie's fingers grip the straps of her vest. The other boys are tense.

"No, I did not," Shepherd states firmly into the microphone.
