Well wasn't this a weird feeling, experiencing the exact same thing all over again. Although last time L sat in the entrance ceremony, he didn't even know death notes existed. Now he knew that the man next to him was in fact, 100% Kira and that there was a shinigami somewhere in the room with him.

Although rather than letting the entrance ceremony play out the same way it did last time, L had a different idea. This time, he wasn't going to reveal he was L right away. He'd say he's an AGENT for L. That would inevitably trigger Light into trying to use him to get close to the 'real' L. He could watch Light, get under his skin. But he'd be safer than he was last attempt. Light knowing that he was L was what lead to his early death, that and Misa having a death note. This time around, L was taking as many precautions as necessary.

Light hadn't paid much attention to L at all when they did their speeches, an hadn't spoken up yet like he did last time. He was waiting for the right moment. He knew you'd be watching from the time room...

Buzz. That was his phone. Taking it from his pocket and glancing at the notification, he read your message.

(Y/n): shinigami right behind Light, he's not paying attention.

L glanced up at the area Ryuk would be standing, he couldn't see the shinigami but he could almost sense him now he knew he was there. With the confirmation Ryuk wouldn't be much of an issue, it was time to move in.

"Light Yagami" L began.

Light glanced over, still focused on the entrance ceremony. He just assumed the fellow top student was going to congratulate him on their shared victory or something.

"Hm?" He muttered.

"Don't react, you'll draw attention to us. Your father is Cheif of the NPA correct?" L replied.

They kept quiet, to not draw any attention or interrupt the ceremony. But Light gave him a slightly confused look, his attention turning more toward L now.

"Yes..? Sorry are you one of his work friends kids or something? Should I know you?" Light asked.

Not a stretch of an assumption to make. It'd make complete sense for the children of police officers to want to follow in their parents footsteps after all. And L was half Japanese, so he definitely LOOKED like he could be the now adult child of one of the older officers Chief Yagami knew.

"No. We've not met... we'll, you've not met me. I've had my eyes on you for a while now... on behalf of L-" L said.

Light was silent a moment, undoubtedly given mental whiplash hearing that out of the blue.

"Wh-why would L be watching me? Because my fathers on the case?" Light asked.

"Correct. All family members of the taskforce are being watched for any suspicious behaviour. Kira is getting information that only those on the taskforce would know of. So either Kira is a taskforce member... or the family members of one that can access the police database. And you, Light Yagami, are sat here to enter a law course. Just the kind of person that would be looking in police databases..."

Again, Light was silent a moment. Probably internally panicking that he'd been figured out as a suspect already. Last time, L had waited a while to mention he was a suspect, but now he was dropping it right off the bat. Of course, Light have no memory of that.

"Are you saying I'm a suspect?" Light asked.

"Yes. The chances are low, but we must investigate everyone to be as thorough a possible" L replied, blatantly lying about the low chances part.

"...understandable. So everyone connected to the taskforce is a suspect?"

"Correct. So as long as you aren't Kira, you have nothing to worry about. It's just routine checks, they'll pass before you know it"

Light's tone was calm, but his body language was tense. Just like the last time L has confronted him during the entrance ceremony. If L didn't already know he was Kira, that would be a sign he'd add to his list of growing suspicions.

"Well... I guess I'll just let them pass then. Not Kira, no worries right?" Light said, trying to seem as casual as possible.

"Exactly. I tell you all this because L has instructed me to gather the intel on you family in particular. So if you see anything suspicious within your family, you report that to me ok? Your sister and mother won't be approached like this, nor does your father know I'm approaching you. Keep this between us, and report to me any suspicious activity from your family members" L replied.

He slipped a card over to Light, one of his many false IDs. A business card with the L logo on the back, and only two things in the front.

Ryu Ryuzaki
555-826269

Alias, burner number.

"Right. Will do... just... out of curiosity, if I'm the only one being approached that means I'm the least suspicious correct?" Light asked.

"You're all relatively equal. Why L chose to have me approach you, I don't know. We don't question their orders, they've never been wrong on over 3000 cases. If L is onto something, you listen to them" L replied.

As you watched the scene play out, you were quite literally eating popcorn with your eyes glued to the screen. It was like watching a crime drama. Ryuk had a similar reaction, having first laughed at Light for being caught as suspicious, then shutting up to listen in and revel in the free entertainment.

"You're good L... real good..." you muttered, watching the two talk under their breaths.

You noted when L refereed to L, the entity and not himself, he used 'they'. That was a tricky little psychological trick there. By stripping L of anything identifiable like a gender, or the assurance L was just one person, it would cause even more questions arise in Light. He'd feel more overwhelmed, more cornered.

You knew L was the shaggy headed guy sitting right next to Light. L knew he was the one behind all those solved cases. But Light? L was an unknown, massively powerful legal entity. No name, age, gender, it could even be more than one person working under the 'L' name. And L was powerful enough to have agents, one he believed was sitting right beside him.

Maybe this absolutely wild plan of L's would work after all. He was good at mind games, Light didn't stand a chance in the mind games department here.

"You may be contacted going forward, it'll be from that number. So don't ignore it or be alarmed when a unknown number shows up" L continued.

"Understood... I'll cooperate. This L guy... he- they know what they're doing right?" Light asked.

"L knows what they're doing weeks before even doing it. I wouldn't try and fight them, it'll end in a hail of bullets for those who go against them"

That it would... especially now L had knowledge he didn't have last time. All you could do at the moment was keep your eyes glued to the screen, the drama had you absolutely hooked. And in all honesty... there was something kind of hot about watching L work. He was so focused, so serious about it and spoke so eloquently.

"Fucking Damnit (y/n) don't go lusting for a mortal no matter how nice his voice is" you mentally slapped yourself.

There was no denying it though, L was super hot-
