L was the only one at the train station, the sun at set a while ago and he simply sat there looking down at his phone.

He found himself deep in thought following the events of seeing a child version of himself happy and well... not traumatised. And when he got off the train, he'd felt his phone buzz and on it was a message from Watari. Looks like you could send a message through the multiverse as long as you had the right number. Back in the gender swapped universe, L has messaged Watari telling him he was ok and he was going to find his way home. To update him on what was going on. Watari finally replied, and the message was rather lengthy.

Dad: thank god, I was worried. Look, I don't know what this creature is or what's going on but I know you'll manage. You always do, you're a problem solver L, I trust your judgement. That cloaked figure, it demanded Cheif Yagami take it to Light. None of us were in any position to fight it, after seeing what it did to you. So he obliged and took it home to Light. I just got word that it's disappeared Light too, I don't know where too. After that it also disappeared, and so far nothing else has happened. None of us know what to do, get back as soon as you can. Be safe L, I love you.

I love you huh?

It wasn't often he and his dad said that to each other, they were both a bit emotionally repressed. But they really did mean it when they did say it. Watari raised L as his own, L turned to him as a farther. They did love each other, a lot. They were just bad at expressing it.

L finally moved his fingers on the keypad to message back, short but simple.

L: I'll fix things, I'm doing all I can to get home and I have help. Just keep things somewhat calm and update me if anything happens. I love you dad, I'll be home soon.

Closing the flip phone shut, he leaned back and sighed looking up at the streetlights by the empty train station.

"You good?" You spoke up, having shifted from the bag onto the seat beside him.

"Yeah... as good as I can be" he replied.

"Don't stress, I know that's easier said than done but we've ruled out a heap of possible universes just by seeing these two. Yours will be one of the next few for sure" you assured.

L cracked a slight smile, a tired one. Turning to face your form sitting on the seat next to him, he placed a hand over the form of yours. You laced your 2D fingers around his, he couldn't feel it much but seeing it was enough to assure him you were there.

"What about you? Are you ok? I can't imagine that form is very comfortable" he asked.

"I'll manage, my back hurts kinda... but it's better than being stuck in a cube" you replied.

There was a moment of silence, L pondering on the buck-fucking-wild situation he was in. In another parallel universe, while some jerk god was threatening his home and taking people out of it to god knows where. His dad was worried about him, his universe could be torn apart if he didn't get back fast enough... and a cosmic being was sitting next to him looking like a flat sticker stuck to the bench.

Why did he always manage to attract the wildest situations? From dealing with a previous successors dressing up as him to kill people, to chasing down bio terrorist across Japan with two kids, now he was literally in another universe because some stupid magic book got picked up by a lunatic teenager. It wasn't just his own situation he was thinking about, but yours too.

"Do you get lonely... in the time room?" L spoke up.

"...yeah, sometimes" you replied.

"You can't even leave the place without morphing into a shadow person, you've existed for eons and you have to watch universes be born and destroyed all day every day... I'd go insane"

"I'm amazed I haven't actually... then again, I'm not human. Maybe my psyche is different to yours, I can withstand these things longer"

L recalled what he saw the day you hid him from the narrator the first time. Your host body, stuck in a secure room in an eternal slumber. He couldn't quite make out what you looked like, but what he did see was similar to the way he saw you in the time room. How you explained to him that waking the body up would kill you, and that it was a crime to do so.

He wondered, we're you simply just a dream? Or were you the projected personality of that host body? You didn't even seem to know yourself. If that body woke up, would it sound like you? Act like you? Have the same likes as you? Or would it be a complete stranger to him, and the you he'd come to care for would be gone forever.

If the narrator was hellbent on destroying his universe... and attempted to trap you too, would he do something as cruel as waking your body up? And if he did... would L ever get to see you again?

"You're overthinking" you spoke up, having come to know the expression on L's face well by now.

"Yeah... I do that" he replied.

"I know you do. I can't blame you in this situation but... push it aside for now, we need to get to the next universe soon"

L looked over at you, your empty glowing eyes looking back up at him. In this form you may be limited, but you did still look amazing. Quite literally like a chunk of the galaxy in the shape of a person. A whole Milky Way of stars twinkling and dancing around when you moved. Much more than he'd ever see looking up at the sky from earth.

"You know... you're probably the only friend I've ever had" he muttered.

"If you're making friends with cosmic beings, you must be pretty cool" you replied.

"You're cooler"

"Take my compliments L"

He chuckled, expecting that reply from you. Sparking you to snicker too, when you did all of your stars twinkled, and the form of your body shifted like it would when a person was trying to hold back laughter. And he caught himself thinking... even in your limited 2D form... you're so pretty.

Oh good gods- he wasn't really in love with someone who wasn't even human was he? But... then again... the way you laughed immediately bought a smile back to his face.
