When L hit the button to zap into your box, he had to stay hidden for a moment because he'd showed up at the exact moment a cosmic traveller was here to make a wish.

He'd not seen what other universes that weren't adjacent to his looked like yet, so when he laid his eyes on this cosmic traveller he was intrigued. They didn't look fully human, they had pointed ears and were quite short compared to the average human. Not quite an elf though, there was something else about them. Long hair, very bright eyes, markings up their arm like tattoos and seemingly a whole blacksmiths worth of weapons on their back. Not only that, they hovered above the ground and their feet glowed almost blue. They didn't speak, they used sign language to talk to you. L didn't have a clue what you were talking about.

With a nod and a snap of your fingers, the person vanished and you turned over to the screen to see where they'd end up with their wish. It buffered a moment, and then showed the person in a lush open field with what looked like a floating kingdom up in the sky behind them. They jumped around and cheered, clearly happy with their wish.

"Ok you can come out now" you said.

"How did you even know I was here?" L asked, slipping into the room from around the doorframe.

"I know when anything or anyone enters dude"

He should have known really, it was your magic room.

"What was that person?" L asked.

"Traveler, first one in ages actually. Species of nature nymph that can't talk like we can, wished to save their dying Forrest home" you explained.

"They came all the way for that? They must be dedicated"

"Magic environments take alot of upkeep, with a small population I'm not surprised they were on the brink of death. Restored the Forrest though so they'll be fine for a few thousand years"

Looking back over at the screen showing the nymph, they ran up to what must be their home village and were immediately greeted with a group hug from their fellow nymphs. It was the first time L had seen the sheer impact of a wish granted, the positive ones at least. It was kind of heartwarming, seeing the pure joy and relief on the nymphs faces.

"You can sign?" L asked.

"I know every language in the universes dude" you replied.

Of course you would, you were a guardian of the multiverse.

"Anyway what's up?" You continued.

"Well... I have some time to kill before the taskforce show up and I tell them Light is the main suspect" L began.

"Oof, his dad won't like that"

"Definitely not"

There was no avoiding that part unfortunately, Cheif Yagami was going to have to live with the fact his son was Kira regardless of the timeline.

"... so I figured I'd hang out here. Not like I have any other people to hang out with. Beside my dad..." L continued.

Seems like you were both a bit lacking in the friends department. And truth be told L actually really liked the time room. Maybe it was the constant comfortable temperature and light level, the lack of noise aside from whatever was playing on the screen. It was like a sensory safe place. He wouldn't mind being stuck in here... for a while at least. The whole of eternity would eventually get very boring and lonely he imagined.

"As long as you don't get caught by anyone else, you're always welcome" you replied.

L walked over, crouching down beside you where you sat on the floor in front of your screen and keyboard. You had places to sit, but you seemed to like to sit on the floor a lot. He couldn't blame you, he did the same. Scattered around your keyboard and mouse were a few other things that seemed to gave been used recently. A game controller, a case full of video games, empty cup and handful of snack wrappers. Cleary you'd been set up here for a while.

"Playing games on the job? What a rebel" L teased.

"Gets boring sometimes man, what can I say?" You replied.

L reached for the stack of games kept in one of those book style cases, it seemed you were able to get your hands on a copy of any game you wanted in a format that could work for your screen. No console needed. There were some he recognised from his universe, Matt having played them before. The legend of Zelda, the original Animal Crossing, Mario Kart, Yakuza, The Sims. And mixed in were games in languages he couldn't read, nor did they look like ones that game from his universe. The alphabets on them looked almost like hieroglyphs. He himself wasn't a big gamer, but Matt often came to him as a kid asking for help on hard levels so he knew a thing or two.

"Gimme a minuet to finish this up, and then we can play something" you said.

"I can't even read half of these but they look interesting" L replied.

You glanced over at the one he was holding, one from a universe millions of years in the future.

"That's a good one. I can switch the language in the settings"

"What's it about?" He asked.

"Solving various puzzles to get to the centre of a planet and freeing a trapped god" you replied.

Now puzzles was something he could do, he solved crimes all the time. You give him a riddle or a maze and he'd have it finished in mere minutes. He could definitely pick up the controls for a game like this.

"Sounds fun" he replied.

Looking back up at the screen, it continued to show the universe of the nymph you'd just granted a wish too. Although a window in the corner was you logging the wish into a database of sorts. He watched the scene continue to unfold, the nymphs all gathering in what looked to be a town centre all cheering and celebrating the return of their cosmic traveller that saved their land. Happy tears shed, flower petals thrown like confetti, hugs and clapping all around. Just one wish could make such an impact, the story of this nymphs wish would be told in that universe for centuries. It made L think, about his wish.

What was something worth wishing for? Something that would be for the better and benefit not just him but those around him? He had to word it carefully too, otherwise it could backfire. There were many possibilities but he still didn't know what to wish for. He didn't want to waste it though, so he'd let him sit in his mind and develop for a while longer.

For now, he'd just spend some time with you as if you weren't a guardian wish granter, and just a normal friend. Because in truth, L felt like you were his friend. His first friend, ever.
