School was creeping up, and I could feel the anxiety gnawing at me. The thought of facing potential judgment and the all-too-familiar dread of being bullied again made my stomach swirl. Janette slipped me some lunch money, knowing I'd never dip into my own stash – I saved that for buying some designer clothes. Yeah, maybe it sounds kind of dumb, but I want to fit in. Even if most of my "designer" stuff is actually thrifted, but shh, that's our little secret.

When I arrived at Eastwood High, where only the privileged kids go to, I couldn't shake the feeling of being out of place. Sure, I scored a scholarship thanks to good grades and some connection between the headmaster and my parents, but let's be real, I'm not exactly swimming in cash. The headmaster's random acts of kindness, like showing up with gifts on my birthday or holidays, leave me feeling grateful.

"Hey, Kam, time to head inside," Janette's voice snapped me out of my thoughts, but my nerves were going back and forth.
