What the prank was, we'll never find out, because not long after, Yeonjun sat Soobin down in a deserted classroom, careful so that no passersby eavesdrops, and no wandering eye catches a glimpse of them. It was settled, Soobin is his full-time therapist.
Yeonjun has a sharp intake of breath, then exhales slowly. He shares his opinion about what he's noticed with Beomgyu: "It seems like something's wrong with him, Soobin. Ever since summer break ended, he's become so sensitive. The smallest thing can activate- I don't know- some defense mode inside him. I have to be so careful around him, he gets offended by nearly anything. If only he hadn't changed—"
"And you've remained the same?"
Yeonjun's breath lodged in his throat. "I'm sorry?"
"You don't think you've changed in the past year?" Soobin interlaced his fingers together, as he often does when he taps into his detective mode.
Yeonjun slumped. "Well, I'm not gonna sit here and lie and say I haven't. No, things happen, lives change. Even I changed as a result of my external influences. I just wish we didn't have so many conflicts arise between me and Beomgyu. I just want us to be like we were in grade 9. Gossiping about stupid things, exchanging our lunchboxes, spending our pocket money on keychains and lockets and the likes. I can't help thinking where it all went now."
Soobin sighed. This enigma was clearly affecting him more than Yeonjun. "Friendships wither and rust away, Yeonjun. That's to no one's surprise. But that doesn't mean it can't be restored, or fixed, or improvement. It's obvious that the destruction of your guys' friendship is caused by miscommunication. I don't think any of you are expressing your emotions clearly. Like for example, you still haven't told him you're going abroad for university and scared of leaving him behind. Similarly, he might also be hiding things from you because he thinks that's the best course of action. Now... will you promise me you'll tell him?"
Soobin was glaring at him so intently that Yeonjun couldn't bring himself to say otherwise. "Yeah. I'll try."
