Everyone began running in. And by everyone, I mean Me, Axel, Olivia, and Reuben. I felt a daze come over me as I walked through the purpleness of the Nether Portal. I could feel the temperature change as I was teleporting. Once I was actually able to move again, I stepped onto the ground. It was warm and rocky. Almost like sand on a beach. It was red with some hints of black and grays. I took in my surroundings. There were rocky walls and ceilings all around us. Below us was a large lake of lava. More like an ocean. In the distance, you could see zombie Pigmen, aimlessly waddling around with their gold swords intact. It was so very warm; beads of sweat instantly came to me. I looked at Axel and Olivia, shrugging for almost no reason, although it feels like there is a reason I was. Moments passed before someone finally came through the portal. Lukas and Jesse came through it, hitting the ground hard. Reuben quickly ran to them as they picked themselves up. "Where's Petra?" Axel quickly questioned. Jesse hesitated. "It was chaos. There wasn't much I could do." "Jesse's right." "Petra's still up there." My breathing shortened. "I got scared. Just for a second." Lukas guilty admits. "You got scared?" Axel angrily asked as he cornered the blonde. "It wasn't my fault." Lukas told him. "You got scared and it's not your fault?!" Axel said angrily again, still pushing Lukas into a corner. "Axel, back off." I sternly said to him, partially surprising him. He turns away from Lukas, speaking. "We gotta go back." He demanded. He walked toward the portal, Olivia abruptly blocking his path. "No! We just have to wait. Think about what you're walking into." Axel huffed. "There's nothing we can do. You'll just end up getting yourself killed." Jesse stated. "You don't know that! You don't know–" "Hey! There she is!" Lukas pointed out, cutting Axel off. All of our heads swiveled towards the direction of the portal. We could hear its ominous noises, indicating that someone was traveling through it. "Come on...Come on..." Jesse said, mumbling to himself. I know how much Petra means to him; losing her meant losing a piece of Jesse. As we breathlessly waited, she finally came through. Except, it wasn't her. It was Ivor. He also landed on the ground, picking himself upright. He made eye contact with us all. "You again." He spat at us. From behind Ivor, came out a tentacle from the Wither Storm. It wiggled around, desperately wanting to capture someone. It headed for Jesse, and he dove away from it. Except it wasn't quick enough because it hit him, knocking him to the floor. I quickly helped him up, brushing the red dust away from his back. The black tentacle wrapped itself around the portal, beginning to crush it. Little pieces crumbled off as the purple sheet flickered. We watched as it finally gave in, cracking. The arm of the monster disappeared as the portal shut down. "Ivor." Jesse sternly said. "You ruined everything! Don't pretend you don't know, thief. You took my most valuable potion...and what should've been my moment of triumph!" "You can't blame us! Your plan, your monster, your fault." Jesse said back, slightly humorously. Ivor gave an annoyed look to Jesse. "Maybe...but if you hadn't stolen from me, I would have destroyed it. And all those people...would have been saved." He said, trying to make Jess feel guilty. "There's nothing left up there! Nothing but that Wither Storm." I put a reassuring hand on Jesse's shoulder, indicating that it wasn't his fault. "Why are we wasting our time talking to this jerk? We have to go get Petra." Axel suddenly blurted out. Ivor's eyes widened. "The girl, I saw her." "What?" "While I was running toward the portal I passed her. She was running in the opposite direction. Such bravery. Of course, there's a fine line between bravery and stupidity. And your friend has crossed it." Ivor paused, "I'm saying she's stupid." Jesse gave him an agitated look. "Petra's strong Jesse, she'll make it." I told him, reassuring him. "You're concerned about your friend. It's admirable. You're all going to be dead, very soon." "We'll see about that." Jesse said in a rude tone. "You don't even realize...you're in danger– right now." "So are you." Jesse said sassley, putting his hands on his hips. Ivor sighed, deciding to help us. "Through that tunnel is a network of minecarts built by The Order of the Stone. It's your only way out." He said, pointing at it. "We should go that way." Axel suggests, pointing in the opposing direction. "Time's wasting. Let's go." "As much as I hate to admit it, he might be right." Jesse admits "Bravo for embracing the truth." Just then, we heard a Ghast screaming in the near distance. "What was that?" Axel said, confused. "I would wish you good luck, but luck won't carry you through the Nether. You have my sympathies." Was the last thing Ivor said before drinking an Invisibility potion, disappearing into the warm, red environment around him, leaving nothing but an empty bottle behind. "RUN!" Is what Jesse screamed at us, the Ghast that was once in the distance, is now right on top of us. We booked it down the tunnel, passing Zombie Pigmen. They just aimlessly stared at us, no expression whatsoever. It was actually sort of creepy. I shuddered as I ran. We spotted the tracks, minecarts lying on top of them. "This must be what Ivor was talking about!" Olivia exclaims. The Ghast spits out a firecharge, hitting the wall next to us. We ran to the minecarts, everyone getting in their own one. Jesse, Reuben, then Axel, Olivia, and Finally Lukas. We soon realized that there weren't enough carts for all of us. "There's not enough–" Olivia said before I cut her off. "It doesn't matter, we have to go!!" I shouted, jumping into Lukas's cart. I tried to give him as much space as possible, not wanting to make him uncomfortable. The carts began moving on the tracks, hitting the powered rails. They took off at a decent speed, one that wasn't too disorienting. We calmed ourselves, taking in the new surroundings. "Wow! The Nether!" Lukas said "Yeah... That's a LOT of lava. And fire. And other things that could burn you to death." Olivia said, menacingly. "Oh no." Jesse said, talking about the huge drop in advance to us. My eyes widened. "Oh that's a drop. That is very, very much a drop." Lukas obviously said. "Yeah, no crap!" I said, obviously scared. I didn't really like big drops like that, especially when in the Nether, where it's extra dangerous. "What are you talking about, new guy? What drrr– Oh crap! You weren't kidding!" Axel said, excitingly. As we were nearing the drop, I got even more scared. My heart racing, not knowing what to do. "Everybody hold on!" Jesse exclaimed. Not thinking, I clutched onto Lukas, closing my eyes. All I could hear in my surroundings was Axel screaming of excitement. We hit the bottom of the drop at a raging speed. I opened my eyes, still holding Lukas's arm. We got to the entrance of a tunnel, pieces of the terrain sticking low from the ceiling. "Oh no." Jesse quickly said before ducking, as the rest of us followed. Aware that another piece of land was sticking out. "Watch it–!" Olivia said, trying to warn Jesse. He didn't duck in time, hitting his head and getting knocked into the side of the cart. "Ow , my head!" He said. I couldn't help but giggle. In front of us was a large wall of pure lava. "Okay, so, I'm not the only one seeing that we're running out of track right?" "No!" "Good!" Olivia noticed a lever, telling Jesse about it. "Jesse, the switch! Now, do it!" Jesse mumbled something to himself, readying his arm for the lever. As soon as it was in arm's reach, he flicked it. The minecarts came to a stop and the platform beneath us lowered. It connected to another set of tracks, letting us continue on. "Haha, wow. I thought something bad was going to happen there, but, heh, I guess everything's going to be...Whoa!" The tracks spit, dividing us up. Twisting and turning, I was being tossed back and forth in the minecart. Everytime I would try to regain my balance, I would get thrown again. There was one last jerk before the tracks rested. That final jerk shoved me into Lukas's chest. I realized this and quickly pushed myself up. "Ah– Sorry Lukas! I tried to keep myself from getting pushed around." I apologized, face red from embarrassment. "Don't worry about it Y/N, it wasn't your fault." He replied, rather quickly. We were covered in beams of sweat, dirt, and a few cuts here and there from everything. I took notice of this. "Wow– we look rough." I told him. He chuckled and nodded in agreement. The mine tracks were actually calm, keeping us at a steady speed. It was actually quite nice; lava lake below us. Lukas was focused on this, looking at it in awe. I looked over at him, acknowledging his features. His blonde hair, slightly messy from the twists and turns of the rails; his eyes, hyper focused on the lava below; his mouth, slightly perked up in a smile; all the beams of sweat and the couple of scratches. He was honestly not bad looking. I smiled to myself...for some reason. Lukas looked back at me, then behind me. His eyes fixated on whatever peaked his interest. "What?" I asked him, slightly scared. "There's a hill." he plainly replied. I turned my head to see a small jump in the rails. I steadily watched as we were lifted farther up. Once we got to the stop, our minecarts lightly crashed into Axel and Olivia's. They smiled at us, as we did them. There was a moment before another minecart came hurtling behind us from the air, crashing into us. In unison, Olivia, Axel, Lukas, and I all turned our heads towards the minecart with an unamused look on our faces. "Is...ha...is everyone okay?" "I mean, I'm not dead. I guess that's pretty good." "Ditto. Ditto with the not dead." "I just can't believe that Petra comes down here all the time...This place is awful." Lukas said. "Your throat is gonna be sore later, Axel." Jesse said, smugly. "Why?" "I'm just saying, I mean... wasn't that you doing all that screaming before? Sounded like you were really shredding your larynx." Jesse said again. I giggled, catching Luka's attention. Olivia smiled. "Oh yeah, I heard that too. Really high-pitched? Kinda like a squeaky piston?" Axel rolled his eyes, pretending like he didn't know what we were talking about. "What. no? Shut up." "Must've been something else." I said shrugging, obviously joking. "We were just lucky to have made it out alive! That's more than most people can say. Their bones are still sizzling away in that lava down there..." Lukas looked at Jesse with concernmet. "Wow. Morbid." He plainly said. "Sorry." Jess said, scratching the back of his head. We finally got to the end of the rails, the minecarts coming to a slow stop. As we all got out, I just happened to trip over my own feet. As I collapsed, I got caught by someone. I looked up to see that it was Lukas. I quickly adjusted myself, as if nothing had happened. "Sorry...and thanks." I fastly mumbled. Somehow, he caught it. "No problem." He said with a smile. We found a set of stairs that we assumed was the way to the second portal. We began trudging up them, making small conversations. "Can you like– throw up inside your body?" Jesse asked, mostly joking. "Uh-huh. I know, because I just did." Olivia stopped. "About five times." I smiled to myself. Even in desperate, tragic times, we still somehow manage to make each other laugh. It's exactly what Petra would want for us. "Wow– look at this place!" In front of us was the exit portal, and a crap ton of more rails and tracks. "All these tracks converge at this point. You could probably get anywhere in the world from here." Olivia pointed out. "There's the portal." "This is what Gabriel was talking about." "That's our way out." Jesse, Lukas, and Axel said, one after the other. "It must lead back to the surface." "The surface is also where that creature is." Olivia and Lukas said. Finally, Jesse spoke. "He's right. We have no idea what we're walking into. It could be dangerous." Axel decided that this was his time to shine. He wanted to go first through the portal. Jesse tried to reason with him, but he really wanted to, so Jesse gave in. He was always one for protecting us. "Thanks for being so brave, Axel." Lukas said. "All right. I'm gonna go. I'm going. I'm going right now. Like right, right now. I just need to make sure I have everything I'll need. I think I put the uh, thing...over in the um..." Axel spat out, hesitating to walk through the purple abyss. "You can do it Axel." I said, giving him two thumbs up and a reassuring smile. "That's right, I can do it!" "Whatever' s on the other side has no idea what it's got coming." Jesse told Axel. "Alright, here I go. Thanks guys." I smiled at him, this time a sincere one. "Be safe up there Axel." He turned to face the portal, a brave expression plastered across his face. "Ready, or not, here I come." With that, he made his way through the portal.
