And he kissed her.

Xavier was brooding.
In his dimly lit wet bar, drinking whiskey from his glass he brooded with a disturbing thought.
You are the worst boss.
Those words kept repeating in his mind, like an alarm in an early morning—torture of snooze after snooze. It had been three days already and those words still rang through his every waking thought, fresh like the first time.
He knew his employees tended to favor Satya over him. But it wasn't because he was a bad—definitely not the worst—boss. Satya was all warm and cheerful, naturally empathetic. Meanwhile, he was hard on people—demanding because he believed that's what it took to bring out their best. Discipline had always worked for him, and he thought it was the only way to succeed.
Then, cutting through his thoughts like a buzz saw, Satya's voice chimed in. "Why do you look like a pigeon shat on your head?" She took a sip from his glass without waiting for permission, then flopped onto the stool beside him.
She'd joined him after work, saying she wanted to unwind. This wasn't unusual; they'd end up drinking at each other's place from time to time. Tonight, though, she'd seemed tense. When he'd asked her about it, she'd mentioned some personal business in Mumbai next week, so she'd be out of town for a bit.
Xavier shook his head, taking a long gulp from his glass. "Satya, do you think my team hates me?"
She almost choked on her drink. "Are you high?" she sputtered, eyes wide as she prepared a glass for herself. "I don't see any thing other than whiskey here."
Leaning forward, he held his glass, arms resting on the bar. "Last time I had any drug was at your birthday party."
And that's when you kissed those soft lips, remember?
Fucking shut up!
"Answer the question, Satya."
She raised an eyebrow, as if he'd lost his mind. "And why, in the name of all things holy, are you suddenly asking me that?"
"Just answer it, dammit," he muttered, making it clear he wasn't in the mood to dodge around.
Grumbling under her breath, she leaned back, thinking it over. "Xav, look. You are... somewhat authoritarian," she said, fixing him with a knowing stare. "Not all the time. Now come on don't make that face, I am just saying you're definitely tougher than you think you are... A hardass, if I want to put it out casually." She sighed. "You expect everyone to keep up with your level of intensity, and that's...not always fair."
