It was always a blast being around her friends

It was always a blast being around her friends. Krithika never realized how tightly she'd woven herself into their lives until now. She missed those evening coffee sessions, where the gossip was piping hot and served with a side of mischief.

Gossip was a delight—until the day it starred you as the main character.

"Xavier sir needs to fucking calm down," Priya said exasperatedly. "That man works like a machine. Can you believe it? He was already here when I walked into the office!"

"We have deadlines, Priya," Krithika shrugged. "I told you about the meeting."

"I don't think it's just the timeline," Akash said, sipping his coffee. "He's working like he's trying to escape reality."

"Classic Mr. Assholic Joseph," Krithika smirked, savoring the name like a fine wine. "I always knew he was acting."

Maybe. Maybe not.

"No," Priya shook her head. "We didn't feel that. He was laughing and being his cheerful self during the general meeting."

Laughing? Cheerful?

Krithika's stomach sank like a stone. The news hit harder than she wanted to admit.

Is he avoiding me? Jolly for everyone else but me?

Fisting her kurti, she forced a casual nod. "Hmm... well, maybe he's just busy with 'boss stuff.' We don't know everything that goes on in upper management."

"Yeah," Rashi chimed in,  just before Rathna's voice cut through the air like sunshine on a gloomy day.

"Hey, Chakudi!" he called out, radiating positivity as always.

Both Krithika and Rashi jumped, startled, as Rathna pulled up a chair without waiting for an invitation.

"Hi, Rathna!" she squeaked.

Rashi's eyes darted between Krithika and Rathna; very curious, indeed. Rathna, oblivious, placed two Tupperware boxes on the table and leaned in.

"These are the laddoos I told you about. And theplas! Oh, and this one might be a bit spicy for you," he rambled, completely unfazed by the attention from Krithika's friends.

"Thanks," she muttered, biting her nails.

Rathna's grin stretched wide as he looked around the table. "Hello, everyone! I'm Rathna from QC." He slid the box toward them. "Take some. It's good stuff." He tapped the lid, waiting eagerly for a response.
