Chapter 1: Intro

Y/N was caught off guard and got hit in the liver by one of Undyne's magical spears. This knocked the breath out of him and caused him to lose his balance.

"Damn it..."

He was knocked down on the ground, being defeated by Undyne... again. He was struggling to breathe, but it wasn't the physical pain that hurt him the most. It was the dirt of defeat and failure to succeed.

"That's 0-100."

That statement only motivated Y/N to become stronger. Even after being defeated countless times, he would keep challenging her. His only goal was to defeat her at least once.

Undyne, the former captain of the royal guard, put her spear away, concerned for his wellbeing. But Y/N stood up and brushed the dirt off his clothes.

His reason for wanting to become stronger? Well, he was training for the first day of school after passing the entrance exams with an average score.  

Which meant that he barely passed. One point away and he would've failed the exam. Since this was his best chance at a better life, he didn't want to mess it up.

"I admire your courage. But why are you always fighting stronger opponents?"

Undyne finally asked. This question had been lingering in her mind for so long, that she couldn't help but ask.

"I won't grow stronger if I don't fight those who are already strong."

Y/N said as if it were common knowledge. Undyne couldn't help but chuckle in amusement since his strong-willed personality always impressed her.

He had one of the main Soul Traits after all. Which was bravery. 

These types of magic users were known for their destructive power and strong offensive abilities. But they also had a lack of defensive abilities.

The two bump fists, before leaving the empty field. This was a hidden area in the forest where they usually sparred.

While Y/N was disappointed with himself after losing for the 100th time. Undyne was thinking about how Y/N improved so fast over the past three months.

He landed multiple clean hits and made her struggle for once. Being a former Royal Guard, Undyne found him as one of the toughest people she has ever met.

Undyne's reason for helping him? Well, she saw potential in Y/N and helped him awaken his magic. 

Y/N also unintentionally saved her once, so she wanted to repay the favor.

"And one more thing, Y/N."

Y/N stopped walking upon hearing Undyne's voice. What was she going to ask?

"Keep training, you punk."

For a brief moment, Undyne showed him her signature smile. The same smile that inspired monsters to have hope in the Underground. 

This inspired him to keep going.

The first day of school was next week. So Y/N went somewhere else to train alone. He had to be ready.
