Arachne POV
Arachne held the sleeping livia in her arms as she carefully rested her chin on top of the other girl's head, the way she was holding livia reminded her of the way her brother held her close when she was scared, her brother was always there for her when her parents weren't , he was always there and he always comforted her.... Until he died 3 days ago.

The Crane family was starving, since the war started and the transportation system was destroyed the family had lost all of its income and were now hardly scraping by they had ran out of food and their parents were alway going out either helping the capitol keep afloat or just getting scraps of food, her brother would try to give her his piece of food but Arachne would beg him to eat because she couldn't lose him, not her older brother Octavian
2 days before he died he had gone out to the war ruined streets of the capitol to steal food because they didn't have any money to pay for food and he had come back home with two bags of food and water that could last them at most 4 days
Arachne was thankful because the pain in her stomach was getting worse and Arachne wanted nothing more than for the pain to stop.
Soon after he got back her brother started acting strange but whenever she would ask him if he was okay her brother would tell he he was okay and that she didn't have to worry and that night he held her close as she fell asleep in his warm embrace.
Arachne had been jolted awake by the sound of bombs going off close to her house and the sounds of gunfire she was so scared that when she turned to face her brother and saw that he was still sleeping on his back she felt the fear she was feeling lessen, her brother wasn't scared so she wouldn't be scared either, so she laid her head on octavians chest and soon fell asleep not registering the fact that her brothers chest wasn't moving.
Not realizing that her brother was dead

Even now Arachne hadn't fully processed the fact that her brother had died suddenly and she hadn't processed the fact that she had snuggled a corpse and when her mother discovered that he was dead that Arachne sobbed cried so much that she couldn't sleep. Then 3 days later Father and mother had told her that she would be staying at the cardew's .
So here she was laying on the cardew's couch with their daughter livia asleep in her arms and finding comfort in the fact that she could feel Her breath on her neck that Arachne thought to herself ('at least I'm not alone') and for the first time since her brother died Arachne fell asleep
