“M-mom, I can’t marry him!” sabay turo sa lalaking nasa harap ko. He looked at me with a concerned look, probably not expecting a tantrum from me.

I am not being scandalous for no reason.

“Jeong Duri, you will stop making a fool of yourself now.” my father spoke firmly at binabato ako ng masamang tingin. My mother beside him sighs in disappointment before looking at me.

“Duri, baby, I thought you knew about this already? Haven’t we talked to you about this for years? Why are you rebelling just now?”

“Ikaw, do you really want to marry me?” I asked him na ikinagulat niya.

“I-i... it’s not that I don’t want to marry you, it’s because we are meant to do this that I can’t really decide.”

I sarcastically laughed. What a loser. Can’t he understand the predicament we are in right now? If we get married, hindi na kami makaka-attend ng mga parties and events freely! People will expect us to be around each other for the whole damn time, and it would be exhausting. Also, our days of living without any shackle ay matitigil dahil we are going to put in an internship and train endlessly! I am not ready for that.

“Mom, Dad, and Mr. and Mrs. Lee,” I called them, “I am not turning down the marriage as an act of rebellion nor I don’t like your son. I personally think that he is attractive.”

“Then why—”

“I-it’s because I-i am already engaged with someone!” I acted shyly and even placed my two hands sa mukha ko para takpan ang pagkahiya ko.

The plan is starting now.

“What are you talking about?” pagalit na tanong ng ama ko.

“I know that you would b-be mad at me i-if I told you suddenly. I think this is the perfect opportunity now, I can’t marry someone else, Dad. M-my heart belongs to him.”

“Who is this him?” My mom was confused.

“I am him.”

There is a thrilling feeling inside me, at hindi ko na naiwasan ang ngumiti.

“J-jimin! My love!” I acted lovey-dovey and stood up to hug him from his side. Napatingin silang lahat sa amin, and even my dad is surprised to see him.

Park Jimin.

He is the only son of the CEO and an engineer ng isang sikat na company who manages real estate agencies and provides design for it.

“Oh god, I am going to faint.” my mom mumbled, and I continued acting pitiful.

But in case things don’t go well, we made a back up plan.

“H-how did— oh my god, is that a child?”

It’s getting more chaotic.

I nodded my head at kinuha ang 2-months old na bata sa stroller.

“Remember where I went to Busan for a supposedly school trip and stayed there for a year because I enrolled at a cram school there? I’m sorry, I lied. T-this is the reason.”

Jimin acted as if he was comforting me by patting my head. He then bowed his head to my parents, and my parents are still dumbfounded.

“Mr. and Mrs. Jeong, please forgive me for this shameful behaviour. I know that we hid this for long, but we are aware that our actions were unforgivable because we were out of control before. But I can’t accept to see Duri being married to another man when we have established a family already.”

I nodded my head once again and tried wiping a fake tear. My father let out a heavy breath then faced the Lees to apologize for this scandal, and promised to compensate for the inconvenience of setting up meetings and dates for me and their son.

“Kayong dalawa, let’s talk in private.”

“Our plan worked, Jimin.” I whispered to him, and he glanced at me with a smug that celebrates success.

“Adopting Jiru is the best decision we ever made.” at napalingon siya sa bitbit kong sanggol.

Little did we know, this escape plan of ours will chain us into something more.

Something that we
can’t escape forever.
