"Niko, that is disgusting, put it down." Mom's chastising voice falls deaf in my ear, not even a storm could stop me from eating the leftover batter of her cupcakes.
To my dismay, her hands rips the bowl from me and I whine like a baby bird starved of food.
"Use a spoon, not your finger. You aren't two years old anymore." Her serious voice used to haunt me as a child.
Forcing me to halt my finger that's halfway to gather another dip of icing for her legendary cupcakes, she says this one of the elements that got dad fall in love with her.
A small grumble escapes me but I quickly retreat it as her gaze meets mine and she cocks a brow at me.
Twirling around in my chair and sauntering towards a drawer, I lift a spoon with a salute to show my surrender.
"Good boy." She speaks in an insanely maternal voice, lifting her fair hand and ruffling my ink black hair, causing my already messed up hair to deal with even more damage. "Did you brush your hair this morning?"
A sheepish grin escapes me as I tilt my face up and brush a kiss on her palm, "Did I ever tell you how beautiful you were, what are you now, 27, 28- Ouch!"
Releasing a hiss as I nurse the part of my head that got a slap from her, "I take it back mother." Narrowing my eyes at her which only causes her smile to grow.
Before I have a chance to retaliate with any more nonsense, a large bang causes the both of us to jolt. And low and behold it's my baby sister coming to grace us with an ear stretching grin on her face. "I got the job!" She squeals out.
Mom's cooking comes to a halt as her smile grows to match Sofia's as she abandons everything and runs towards her daughter. She throws her arms around Sofia's slender neck as she pulls her in the tightest bear hug. "Oh baby, I'm so proud of you! I knew you could."
Sofia returns the favor by throwing her arms around mom's waist and burying her face in her shoulder. "Thanks mom."
"Shall I get a room? It doesn't exactly help with my ego standing like this." I speak in a bored voice as I throw a pinch of sprinkles in my mouth.
Mom releases a small chuckle while Sofia returns me with one of her famous eyerolls which dangerously resembles dads.
"Thanks for the congratulations Niko, I feel my legs turning to jello."
"Anything for you Baby Sis."
Her face scrunches in annoyance as she abandons the hug with mom only to throw sprinkles at me, I catch most of them in my mouth. "We're twins you twat."
"I'm older by two minutes." My grin only fuels her frustration, she looks on the verge of hitting me with a baseball bat, however two gentle palms cup my shoulder along with hers.
Mom stands in between us like a barrier to keep us from killing each other, her warm expression could bring flowers back to life. Dad calls her sunshine which has never been more fitting for another person, however he calls Sofia little sunshine which could never be more wrong.
"Look at that, my two grown kids still arguing like they're three years old." She sighs with a gentle smile.
Sofia wraps her arms around mom's neck, totally abandoning her murderous nature for a good moment, "Of course not mom, I've grown in my maturity" She lifts a threatening finger at me as if it's a gun, "He's the problem!"
I raise my hands in defense as I clutch my chest as if I'm wounded, "Twins are supposed to share a sacred bond, baby sunshine, you're supposed to always take my side. See mother, I am trying to make a connection." I return the gesture of holding a scolding finger, "She's the problem!" I mock her tone, only infuriating her more.
Sofias hands fists, her lips purse as she fixes her posture, "Why you-"
A muffle cuts her off as I shove a cupcake in her mouth, although she seems more intrigued than displeased. A giggle escapes her as she begins munching on it like a child who's been starved.
I cup her shoulders and give her a small bro hug, "Proud of you baby sunshine."
She gives me an appreciative look before dropping her head on my shoulder and continuing to munch on the cupcake.
"Sofia, slowdown it isn't going anymore. Don't choke." Mom says in a soft scolding tone as she brushes her fingers through baby sunshines ebony hair that matches moms in an uncanny amount.
"Geez mom, she's a working woman now, no need to baby her."
She stares at me with a glare as she wraps her arm around my neck and pulls me in so I'm embraced in her warmth, "The both of you will always be babies to me."
"Even when Niko has a trucker beard and fifty unsold albums." Sofia speaks in a muffled voice with cupcakes still in her mouth.
"You wish, baby sister, I'm going to be the next Stevie Nicks."
"That's a woman." Sofia replies while finishing off half her cupcake.
Giving her nothing more than a small shrug as I stretch my arms above my head, "I guess I just don't see gender."
She gives me a grumble as she throws the wrapper at my face.
Catching it with ease as I drop it in the garbage can and gather my hair, it's grown further past down my neck causing me to resort to having it tied up often.
Mom playfully rolls her eyes as she smacks a kiss on both mine and Sofias Cheeks along with taking the reigns of doing my hair for me, "You'll be the greatest rockstar ever baby boy, and if all else fails you can still live with us like most rockers do."
Sofia breaks out into a snicker as I push away from mom and finish doing my hair on my own. "Watch me, I'll have the world kissing my feet."
A grin grows on Sofia's face as she tilts her head and cups my shoulders, "That's one thing we can agree on."
