Clouds were now beginning to obscure the darkening sky, she crouched under the shade, crisscrossed by leaf-bare branches above her.

Air was filled with damp, Leafy scents, it was getting late and no sign of Jack.

Crouched down, behind the cabin, She was examining a flower she deemed pretty, it had to be a fritillary kind.

She loved flower spotting back when she was in the mansion ... but she couldn't bear to think back on that.

The twittering of birds seemed to drown out the noise of the footsteps behind.

Her eyes widened as a hand pressed on her shoulder from behind, she swiftly turned around, punching whoever, in the gut causing them to grunt and fall. A heavy gasp escaped their lips.

"Jack?" she questioned, awkwardly rubbing the back of her neck in embarrassment, "Don't do that idiot! I could've killed you, or something..!" She spat, irritated that he even thought it was a good idea to scare her.
He quickly lifted both hands in defence, shaking his head, a grin plastered on his face.

"It was just a joke, man. No need to get hostile!" He smirked, though one hand placed gently at the spot she had hit.
Nina spat in dispute, rasing her chin, yet she couldn't help but feel a bit guilty. Pushing the guilt to the back she shook sher head, she was hungry and getting impatient, leaving a bad impression on her.

Cringing at her own actions, Her eyes lowered, focusing on the man, and outstretched an arm for him,
A rough and cold hand hend onto hers, pulling back she helped him off the ground and watched as he dusted the dirt off himself.

"Look," He sighed, "Let's just go in and eat, okay?" He mumbled, quietly. The mention of food lit a spark in her, though she wouldn't tell, she wouldn't say anything at that.

Feeling his cold grip on her shoulder, he began to pull her along, back to the front of the cabin. A warm feeling crept inside of her, she was sure it was just the mention of the food, right? She followed behind, more slowly, lost in thought.

Watching Jack sling the bag off his shoulder he rummaged through it. She watched as his eyes lit up, grabbing something at the bottom. "Here!" he pulled it out, passing it to Nina to examine. She stared in distaste. "You went all the way..to get me a sandwich." she grimaced. She was starving, not hungry! He blinked in surprise at her response, scrutinising her.

"Be grateful I even got you anything. Besides, it's just for now, I was thinking of cooking something bigger and I didn't want you to wait." He scoffed, making his way over to the small kitchen. Guilt flared up in Nina's eyes, following closer behind, she joined Jack's side.
She watched intently as he sprawled out the ingredients across the wooden counter.

She couldn't help but feel the need to apologise for her behaviour. Peering up at jack, hoping to discreetly catch his attention without words though he seemed to be focused as his eyes narrowed as he pulled a knife from the drawer below.

She let out an awkward sniffle in hopes that would do the trick, yet nothing. Glaring up at him she then cleared her throat.
"Yes?" He sighed under his breath. Staring up at him with big eyes, she shifted impatiently on her feet, trying to get the right words out. His brows lowered, laced with concern, his hand lowering, pressed onto her shoulder. "Is everything okay?"

"Thanks, for this," She quickly mustered out, eyes glazed with embarrassment. Eyes swiftly looking up, taking in his expression, and was caught off guard by his sweetened smile, his grip softening on her shoulder. Her eyes darted back to the floor.

"Hey, It's no"-

"Even though it's the bare minimum." She quickly cut him off, she wasn't into all this sappy stuff. Keeping her eyes off Jack, she couldn't help but smile as his soft chuckles beside her.

Turning to the window she let out a comforted sigh, things seemed to be looking up for her. Maybe the saying was true, 'everything happens for a reason'.

"So, you did a bit of stitching whilst I was gone." He commented, eyes still focused on his cooking. She didn't want to talk about it but nonetheless, she let out a husky sigh. "So what? It's not like I'll have them in for long." She quickly retorted.

The sky was beginning to darken and she began to wonder where she would stay for the night.
"Hey. Could you set the table up?"
She sighed, brows lowering annoyed.

"Fine.'

The sheet neatly tucked, the pillows clean, they both stared at the bed. Jack rested his hand on Nina's back, slightly nudging her into the bedroom. "So, you're staying her for the night." he muttered, awakwdly stepping back. "sleep well."
Nina quickly turned to face him. "What about you? Where will you sleep?"
There has been no other bed in the cabin, she has assumed she'd be using the small pull out couch placed in the corner of the bedroom.

"I'll use the couch in the living room, no biggy." he smiled, shutting the door behind him, leaving nina to herself. Letting out a heavy sigh, she stepped towards the bed, it was oddly clean for a cabin that was littered with bodies. Living up the sheet, all was good, yet she still felt uncomfortable, she hated sleeping in places to was a guest to. She still felt uncomfortable yet she knew she had to depend on him, there was nothing else here for her.
