𝐑𝐄𝐂𝐈𝐏𝐄 𝐈 - 𝐢 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞...

Carved out a piece of my heart,

Placed a bet on love.

Thought the worst would be we'd end apart,

In case we landed on waters rough.

Wagered pieces of myself away,

In a game with no winners.

Bound to be naïve,

After all, we were just beginners.

Because when it was time for the final move,

The moment my rose tinted glasses broke.

Our love was at test, with lots left to prove.

Ended up losing you but lost myself too.

A poetic ending for the gamble I entered into,

The gaping hole in my heart just grows.

Bitter memories and all my blues,

Will take a lifetime to forget, I suppose.

So there's no going back now, wandering into that old lane,

My head knows better but the heart still yearns.

And the game threatens to restart, all over again,

Deep breaths, I try to resist the temptation.

Find my mental notes to stay away from love,

But it's too late now, the damage is done.

This false hope will soon meet it's pre-destined fate,

Like Icarus flying too close to the Sun.

Ended up making the same mistake over and over,

Stuck in a limbo where the pain never ends.

On a quest to find my star-crossed lover,

Or to lose myself in the process.

Eons ago, I bit an apple,

Chose to give love a chance.

So I roam here, waiting for my story to end.

Greedy, was punished with a lifetime to suffer without romance.

Not sure if it was a sin or a curse,

Or whether I was one of the lucky ones.

To play a pawn in this game plotted by the Universe.

But all I know is that i loved you once...

(And probably will, forever)
