Back to Hell

I already knew where I was before I opened my eyes. The heat on my face and the feeling of gravelly rock below my feet gave it away.

Back on the Plateau, for the first time in a long while.

I cringed at the thought of Kenny and everyone at school having to watch me be pronounced dead. Thank God they won't remember any of it.

I wondered if Kenny would. We had never died in front of each other, but I didn't recall anything in the Necronomicon about immortal souls being immune to the time-bending that followed another immortal soul's departure.

I sat down on the ground and laid back, enjoying the warmth and jagged edges of the rocks pressing into my back.

"I thought I might find you here."

I shot up, whipping my head around. "Kenny?!"

He strolled up to me casually, like we were seeing each other in the grocery store, not the pits of Hell.

"How are you here?" I asked, shocked.

"I grabbed Officer Barbrady's gun and shot myself. I wanted to see if we'd wind up here together again."

"A little dramatic for an experiment, don't you think?"

"What can I say? Nothing can keep me away from my girl," he said with a smirk, offering me his hand to stand up.

I reached for his hand, and then pulled back, remembering the burn on my fingertip.

"The last time we touched here..." I trailed off.

He drew his hand back and nodded. "Yeah... I remember."

I rose to my feet on my own, facing him. "Anything interesting happen after I left?"

"I didn't stick around for long, but Heidi's probably having a breakdown right now over accidentally killing you."

I let out a laugh. "Serves her right, but she won't learn anything from it, since she won't remember."

We fell into a comfortable silence, just staring at each other in the soft glow of the flames. Kenny's eyes were mesmerizing, and I felt the haunting feeling of the nightmare melting away.

"Are you ready to go back?" I asked.

"Ready when you are, baby."

"Okay, I want to try something." I felt a mischievous smirk creep across my face.

Kenny raised his eyebrows, waiting for me to elaborate.

"Take off your parka." I stepped closer as he obliged my request. "Now pull up your shirt."

"I like where this is going," he murmured, smiling to himself.

"Shut up," I laughed with an eye roll. He lifted his shirt, exposing his abs and chest. I took one last look in his eyes as they sparkled in the dull light of the flames, and planted a kiss on his ribs. The moment my lips touched him, the world went white, and we were torn back from Hell.

I jumped up in my bed and whipped my lip balm out from my nightstand, slathering a thick layer on to relieve the tingling, burning sensation left over from a touch in Hell. I was giddy with excitement to see what kind of mark Kenny would have left on him, until reality set back in.

Shit, I wonder if I'm suspended from school.

Like clockwork, I heard the front door slam shut.

"Y/n!" Clyde called out from downstairs.

"Yeah?" I yelled back, leaving my room and meeting him at the bottom of the stairs.
