A leader and a medicine cat from two different Clans fall in love, resulting in a litter of kittens. Unwilling to expose their secret relationship, the two Clancats leave their children in the care of a group of barn cats who raise them as if they were their own. As the kits grow, they begin to question their origins, based on the vague memories they have of the leader and medicine cat.
