It's my first day back at work today. I walk out of the elevator and towards my office. I've actually missed taking this route. Everything still looks the same but I know, from what Jane's told me, that they've managed to solve a case. I get round the corner and I automatically look straight at the bullpen. Jane had come in earlier and is in an... Interesting position on his couch, one leg propped on the other. The others are at their desks.

'Boss,' Van Pelt says with concern. The boys look up and she comes over to me.

'Welcome back,' she says. 'Jane said you might be coming back today.'

'Here I am.'

'How are you?' Cho asks.

'I'm good, thanks.'

Rigsby takes his turn. 'You better?'

'Yup. Ready and raring to go.'

'Are you sure you're up to it?' Grace asks.

'I'll be fine Van Pelt. Honestly. I could have come back in yesterday.'

'Oh okay... Well, Rigsby's left some paperwork on your desk, from the last case, that you have to sign. And... That's about it.'

'Great. Have you got anything since the... Carson... Case?' I ask trying to remember what Jane had told me.

'No. We've been flat since Friday.'

'Oh okay. Well I'll fill out that paperwork then join you all twiddling your thumbs.'

She smiles warmly. 'Okay.'

I walk into my office and see a pile of about six sheets on my desk. I scan them lazily and sign on the dotted line. I decide to check my computer for notifications and news but little shows up. I read the briefing from the last case but then Jane knocks on my door. I look up expectantly as he enters.

'Glad to be back?'

'Yeah... I actually am. It's better than being cooped up all day long,' I smirk.

'Well being cooped up did you good. You needed a break.'

I tilt my head with a smile and tap the papers on my desk into a neat pile again. I get up and walk towards the door, towards him.

Patrick Jane

She walks closer to me with a gentle expression. When she's standing in front of me she looks up... Into my eyes, as if searching for something.

'Thank you,' she says quietly then kisses me on the cheek and hugs me. I squeeze my arms around her as if saying 'you're welcome' and think about just how much I have missed having cuddles. We pull away and she gives me a look that tells me I'm lucky to receive that as it's a rare gesture. She removes her hands from the top of my arms with a smile then walks out of her office. I knew she'd say it in her own good time...

I head into the bullpen and absolutely do not regret the past couple of weeks. This'll sound crazy, but if it wasn't for Red John, none of this would have happened. Patrick and I are close friends and that, back there, was a friendly gesture. We have been through experiences that showed the sides neither of us ever see and he is very different outside of work. I love him so much, as a friend. And we both know that'll be all. But there will always be a part of me that he has repaired with his care and love, and shall always make me consider more...

I found love from Red John.
