Chapter 4

"I can't see anything in here!" A man exclaimed.

Shifting her eyes, Mei took note of the man before looking at the foggy path ahead.

Strangled cries echoed.

Skidding to a stop, Mei avoided the headless body that landed in front of her.

"Hey! Watch out!" A voice called.

At the shout, Mei was gone. In her place, a towering beast snapped its jaws.

"Thank you," Mei spoke from behind the man.

"Eh?!" Came his startled response.

Whipping around, he faced the petite examinee.

"I do not need your assistance," Mei spoke. "But thank you."

"Wha-" The man started, but she was already gone.

"Leorio!" Yelled his friend.

Turning, the man was flung into a fight with the beast.

'Leorio...' Mei noted, 'Interesting man.'

Continuing her run, Mei found herself lost within the fog.

'Of course the proctor would activate In,' Mei huffed.

Slowing to a walk, Mei observed her surroundings.

After a few minutes, she grew frustrated.

'I can't be that lost,' She thought.

"Now, run!"

Turning towards the yell, Mei observed the path to her left.

Contemplating, she shifted forward.

'It's my best chance,' She concluded with disdain.

Entering the dense path, Mei walked toward the shout's origin.

A familiar flash of red caught her eye.

Tilting her head, Mei watched the scene before her.

'Is that...' Mei's thoughts trailed off as she took in the crumpled brunette on the floor.

'Leorio,' She confirmed.

Glancing back to the magician, Mei narrowed her eyes.

"Drop him," Came the soft command.

"Hmmm," Hisoka hummed.

Trailing his gaze up the pale arm attached to his wrist, Hisoka cracked a grin.

"Mei, how lovely it is to see you," He drawled.

"Hisoka," She spoke again.

Holding her gaze, the magician chuckled.

With a close-eyed smile, he spoke, "Make me."

"Oof!" The boy coughed as he landed harshly on the ground.

Looking up, he tried to focus on the figures.

Flashes of red and white flew past his vision.

Thump.

"I win," Cooed Hisoka.

Eyes wide, the boy watched as Hisoka now held the woman by her neck.

Glaring, Mei swung a kick to his abdomen.

Disappearing, Hisoka was once again in front of the boy.

Startled, the green-garbed boy shook.

"Don't worry, I didn't kill your friend. He's going to be just fine," Hisoka spoke.

Wide-eyed, the boy stared at the magician.

"And that's because he passed," Hisoka chuckled.

Pulling a leaf from her hair, Mei watched the interaction.

"And yes, you pass as well," He continued. "Now go and become a good Hunter."

A tweeting sound drew everyone's eyes to Hisoka's pocket.

"Hisoka, You should get back here. We've almost reached the site of the second phase."

With a sigh Hisoka replied, "Ok, Be right there."
